Few days ago I resprayed under the gas door and everything looks good for being my first attempt. Wet sanded off some over spray with 1200 griut wet sand paper and now can see marks from where I sanded it right above the pin stripes and on the rear door. Should I go to a finer grit paper and keep going or get a buffing compound and try buffing it out?
Worried about sanding off the clear and having to redo these spots also.
 


which compound would be best? tried using some turtle compound I had but its been sitting around for a year and didn't help at all, just left little dry flakes everywhere.
 


i just wet sanded my whole back bumper with 600 grit paper, then used a buffer with compound (turtle wax liquid compound #7 )

i had repainted the bumper last fall, and cleared it, but it got to cold to wet sand and buff it till a few weeks ago.

yes this is a rattle can paint job, duplicolor gm black metallic. and clear.


if you dont have a buffer you will have to really lean on the towel with the compound hard and fast to clean it up, it can be done, its just a lot of work by hand.
 
Just buffed the spots I needed with meguirs stuff...worked great, now the rest looks dull lol. Looks like ima have to finish the whole car

thats how it usually works, fix one spot, now to do the whole car so it all matches lol

i just picked up a Harbor freight buffer, its just as good as the porter cable if you ask me. and less then 1/2 the price.

I would do either this or 3000. Meguiar's M105 or ultimate compound will get them out. You could do it by hand as well with a little more work and a microfiber towel or microfiber applicator pad. After you compound with a foam applicator to remove some of the marks left by the aggressiveness of the microfiber towel. Finish up with a polish like ultimate polish and seal it with a wax of your choice.
 
That's what I plan on buying from harbor freight this weekend when I get time.

One thing I forgot to mention is to wait 30-60 days before you wax any area that has been freshly painted. You want the paint to outgas and fully cure. I would also recommend you wait about 3 days before you do any type of wetsanding and compounding.
