Sagging rear springs

I'm sure this has been discussed and I did a search but I didn't find what I'm looking for. I have a 96 SE coupe and the rear sags bad on it and it will rub the left rear tire over dips in the road and bumps. Not really worried about the rubbing but it just looks silly..

My question is, what can I do to return the rear back to factory ride height? I have replaced both struts which helped the rubbing but not the sagging. Is there anything I can personally do aside from bringing it to the dealer to have the rear spring replaced? If I'm not mistaken it has a mono leaf spring and requires a special tool to remove. I have tools out the a$$ but nothing for removing the rear leaf of a GP. Is there a helper spring available, perhaps a spacer or rubber isolator? TIA

be careful of the side bushings and the ride height is actually the side springs which you have to cage be careful

I'm one of those do-it yourself people. I can't tell you the last time I've taken anything I own to a shop other than for paint work. No DIY advice, or simple fixes? Not looking to spend an a$$ load of money paying a mechanic to do a job that I could do if I only had the spring compression tool.

Why can't these cars have springs on the struts like "normal" cars! lol

Welcome my friend to why I hate older W body cars. It makes you buy special tools galore. You can cage the figure 8 spring with a bolt that comes with a strut. Then it can come out with a 13 mm bolt on the side (do not use mechanics wire) I had a guy do his struts and messed it all up. Camber was whacked out cuz he tweaked the springs. after those are cage change the mono leaf is easy. The side rubber rot away. Also do struts and mounts in the rear they rott away and cause it to sag pretty bad.

Wow I see the same thing all the time here in Wis on my car and every GP I see older than 8 yrs. I replaced the rear mount at my trusty indep mechanic, he is excellent I have known him for years. Now I need to replace rear struts, I think that will help also. I saw a 97 or 98 GP Coupe on the street with a really nice high clearance. Should have followed him and asked how he did it!

Dude WTF are talking about? This is my thread, MY question, MY inquiry about fixing MY car! What insult and WTF question did YOU ask? Why don't you suck my sagging balls and get a clue.

I don't even know wtf you're talking about or refering to???? So maybe you should get 'Outta' here and Fukc off!?

Hey Outta, Y don't U get Outta here? I ask a legit ?? and get an insult.

F*&k you.

first, your new, and if your gonna go off about something as dumb as that, you better leave RIGHT NOW! Second, what he said wasn't an insult, grow the fuk up! Third, what you consider a question had absolutly nothing to do with the suspension setup we were talking about, its TOTALLY different, so start your own thread if you wanna be a cock, thanks and have a nice day :th_biggrin2:

I'm new here too but did I seriously miss something? I didn't even see a question mark in this dude's comment so what question did I insult? I was simply stating that maybe I should lower the front on MY car to match the rear since it seems easier than working on the rear suspension... Lol seriously, wtf?

Totally my fault I didn't realize I was coming into the middle of an ongoing exchange. Sorry is a sorry word, but it was my bad. Love my 97 and just trying to find ways to give her some new life, upgrades, etc. I am probably not tech savvy enough to be on here, anyway. -- hgw997
