Safe RPM Limits??

I Will have about all I can to help with oiling such as the Intense oil pressure kit,Balance shaft removed and plugged,Oil return holes drilled ect ect.



I am hoping to get some input from you turbo guys since i'm sure you guys are the main ones that are running high rpm's. But anyone who knows i'd also like you're opinion.


My cam's power range will be from about 3500 to 7500. Or so it says.


So i'll likley be shifting around 7500.


It will also be a fully rebuilt motor.


What i'm mainly wanting to find out is What the title says. What is safe as in if I do it a lot will it reduce my motor life by an EXTREAM amount?
 


I see now that most turbop camshafts rpm range is under 7000.
 
I plan to have all the nessary upgrades like roller rockers,lighter tiatainum retainers and locks,3/8 push rods ect ect.


But I guess that's what i'm trying to find out.


I'm considering going turbo at the moment. Just not sure if I want to wait as long as it will take to save up the money and all.I have to check on a gtp that my buddy has for sale for like a 1000.00 bucks. Runs and drives and in pretty good shape.Just have to make sure that he still wants to sell it and all. That is what will make the decision for me more than likely.



That way i can have a dd on the side and take my time with this one.
 


7500 is a lot of rpm. I also have an ls1 car and wouldn't shift that anywhere near that high. You would need some high rpm lifters idk if you can get a solid lifter setup for a 3.8 but that wouldn't collapse. Some intense pushrods. And equally intense valve springs. Roller rockers. And can the bottom end handle spinning that kind of rpm?

But I dont really know a lot about these motors.
 
Well for what it's worth I have known manny people that have had 302's and with a cupple of oiling tricks spin to 8000 no problem,consistantly at the track all of the guys that I know have had many many track passes and have yet to have a problem spiining that high or have a problem from spinning that high.


I understand this is not a 302 but I think the general concept is the same.

But that's what i'm trying to find out.
 
the stock ignition system starts to break up at 7000..... I wouldnt trust it much past that.

If it is a built motor... what kind of bearings were you going to use?

I would STRONGLY recommend some along the line of an "H" bearing... but if this is primarily a track car.. I would go for more of an "HX" bearing... these are made for high RPM, and offer better cooling.

get the best money can buy. dont skimp. otherwise you will be rebuilding it often.

Ok thanks for the input. I was planning on using something along those lines. I noticed on intenses website that I belive it was that hx bearings stated to only use in a track only car.Why is that?

i think 7100 is the limit on the stock ignition. not sure with what you could upgrade it with?:confused:

what psi are you going to set the oil pressure at?

have you looked into a new balancer? i believe stock is good up to 6300 after that you could be hurting the motor. zzp says going over that can cause bearing failure.
 


You could always go with a dis-4 from msd. The oil pressure will suposedly be at 80 - 85 psi with 20w50.


I have not looked into a new ballancer but planned on getting an sfi one to go along with the build.
