S/c oil change

So I manage a quick lube here in Fort Wayne Indiana. I talked my owner into doing supercharger oil changes. Now I've heard both things. Use full syn 530 or Gm supercharger oil. What's your guys opinion on it
 


0W-20/30, but it needs changed more often because the breakdown is quicker than GM S/C oil, but cost for cost, it's nearly idential since motor oil is dirt cheap compared to S/C oil.

It's a toss up for personal preference...along with needing to re-seal the case with Anerobic sealant, not with RTV.
 
Is there a significant market for S/C oil changes? Interesting.

With my own S/C... I would change the coupler, seal, and the oil at the same time, with genuine GM S/C oil... but I realize coupler changes are beyond the scope of what a lube shop would like to do.

Considering that, I'd say, use the genuine GM S/C oil. I understand that there will be a higher price that goes with that... but I'd consider something like S/C oil changes a premium service, with a higher cost (and a healthy markup which should make the owner happy).
 
Well we do all fluid changes. And fuel filters. And all the normal maint stuff. So got me thinking while I was changing mine at work. Why do we offer it to customers
 
its over looked by many owners just not knowing. i dont recall seeing it even listed in my owners manual maint list.

as long as your a shop. your best to use the GM sc oil. (same as the ford m90 fluid) people can sue for damages should the blower bearing burn up or some crap and you guys used motor oil.
 
Yeah I know that. I called the engine service place down the road and asked what they put in them when they rebuild them. And they do full synthetic motor oil. But most likely we are going to do sc oil and replace the plug every time. Where is the cheapst you think we can get it. I'm calling all our oil distributors and non carry it so looks like dealer only
 


on line buying in bulk, i bet you get a good deal, then pass the savings on all your good friends here...you know how shops roll. cost X charge Y, that hidden 20% for parts cost...

even if you had to go through Gm im sure as a lube co they sell in bulk cheaper too. ford also, same fluid. then t birds had a m 90 too.
 
Appearance is everything. Customers see you pouring regular motor oil into their S/C they'll wonder what they actually paid for, or look online when they get home and realize that there's a correct oil for the job that WASN'T used. If they see you using a bottle of oil that says "GM supercharger oil" they'll feel a lot better about the service and paying to get it done. Showing them the little bottles could even help you make the sale as it's not something people can pick up down the street at Autozone.
 
The supercharger gears are powdered metal and the lubricant is designed for powdered metal gears and ball bearings.

Motor oil is designed for motors! If your offering a service offer the correct GM stuff.

I also have bulk oil (correct oil) bearings couplers, seals and proper grease.

GM oil only from gm. (Amazon isn't cheaper)
Eaton coupler only from zzp
 
If you do end up doing this, it would save you money and hassle by just using a sucker to get the fluid out.

It's how we do diff fluid changes on AWD imports or trucks will no drain plug. Open the fill plug and suck the old fluid out.
 
when i had my boat i used to suck the oil out the dip stick tube. theres like no way to drain the oil into a pan, then get the pan out with out spilling. the filter made enough of a mess on its own. used to have a small pail to hold under it.

GM probably doesn't care what happens to your car after the warranty period, since it's on your dime. The S/C oil lasts plenty long for GM not to worry about putting it in your manual.
 


Owners manual should say at every 30,000 miles to check the S/C fluid level, anything past that it doesnt say.

And GM themselves says you must remove it from the vehicle to swap fluid, which is stupid. Because why even have a fill plug if thats how they want it done.
 
Because they can charge more money that way.

I really need to get mine changed. No idea when, if ever, it was changed and I have put 50k miles on it myself and it sits just shy of 173k.
 
use gm oil.

iirc the sc oil is dirrectly related to the PAG compressor/ac lubricant oil.

easiest way to change the sc oil... remove FPR vac line, bbv line, install bbv line to t at fpr port, shove into gearbox while engine is idling...sucks out all the fluid, IROR
