the power of a buffer when used....only took a year or so to use it,,,bet your happy now. :th_thumb-up:

Im very happy, but my back isn't very happy. Glad im doing this over a week lol. Still have to do the rear bumper, left side and front bumper. And now my grandpa wants me to do his cars

details man. what product did you use with what pad ? did you try different pads with the same product ?

it gets to my shoulders the most. i just did mine with black box and the buffer, did it over 2 days time with the cab of a pick up truck tossed in the middle of it lol

i also do 1/2 the hood at one time, fender to door back door to back bumper, 1/2 the roof at a time. then keep buffing till its all done, then wipe it all off.

f that 2x2 foot area crap lol

I just used Ultimate compound on the orange pad,i tried Ultimate polish on the white pad and got swirls so I need to figure out what I was doing wrong. Then for wax i used the black wax that came with my turtlewax black box kit.

That's the way I do it, a panel at a time over the course of a week or so.. Fcuk trying knock it all out in a day I'll end up getting lazy and just rushing it.

I found myself rushing near the end but told myself to just take it easy, rushing = bad day

That looks shiny! One tip for minimizing swirls is to assure that only one product at a time is in the pad and on the surface. As in wash panel between steps. You uns need gyno cream, I cut and buffed the 69 in a day with no touch ups later.

Probably using a rotary too ehh? Of course that's a faster way to do correction.

Thats exactly what was happening to me, so it seems a softer pad would not help but hinder, interesting. I'll try the polish on the orange pad and see how that works tomorrow along with slightly higher speed.

What speed were using with the polishing pad?

How long were you working ultimate polish? Meguiar's products uses non-diminishing abrasives, so they don't flash and turn opaque.

How did you prime the pad? Did you clean the pad as you went from panel to panel?

I recommend using water as a wetting agent versus a detail spray as detail sprays leave something behind.

Your paint could just be on the soft side as not all paints are created equal.

It did come out real good.

Knowing how much pressure to apply comes with experience. I'm curious now what these extremely soft paint systems are that were mentioned on Guz's link. Might just mean cheap. Do you know if your car has any refinished areas or is it all stock paint?

Red, yep using a rotary and with sanding included. I would think its tough to generate enough heat with a DA to make most polishes work, but IDK.

Should be all stock, I get what your saying tho. You should come take a trip up to Michigan and learn me for a day on detailing/body work haha .

All I can say is this- as with anything automotive its only about where the rubber meets the road, right? Or where pad meets clear in this case.

Know what you're using and what you're doing, its that basic. Products for leveling paint come in only two categories, mechanical or chemical "cut". Mech means its liquid sandpaper, contains grit and mills the surface away. Brings up a gloss as the grit wears down, and you're not done until the grit is gone. Chem cut requires speed, for heat, to initiate the leveling process which by chemical means... is more of a melt-and-smear effect. Softens the crust and melts it momentarily. So you get nowhere without plenty RPM.

So yeah, know which you have in your hand and imagine whats going on at the surface as you work. Personally I tend toward scary high RPM and man that buffer precisely as a sixgun to avoid damage. Probably the most important aspect is how hard to press or lift on the tool. Think about that, never press against the panel always hold the tool's weight with your muscles. Vary the friction to manage heat. Once the heat is in it, work fast and do your warm area.

And keep in mind that without ever touching high quality pads you'll never realize the difference quality can make.
