Running your car without a s/c belt?

The story...
Car bogged down whenever I start hitting up on boost. Thought it was a vacuum leak. didnt find one. so i figured it was a bbv. saw one person have the same problem and removed the s/c belt and it ran exactly like a n/a motor then. so i figured, hey let's experiment. tried it myself and i can now go WOT no prob and haven't been able to do so in a long long time. To my surprise it didnt throw a code either. my question...

I know how a s/c'er works and all but how does that work exactly? is the ecu preprogrammed to run that way? Is it due to the maf sensor? How does the system so easily bypass the blower?

Would research it but i wouldn't know where to start

The fueling is controlled by the Maf sensor and how much air is flowed thru it. You will be running rich when the car enters into fuel enrichment(30 percent throttle-WOT) but other then the car being balls slow it woulnt really cause any issues other then maybe contributing to cat failure and maybe fouling a plugs. Your car will be considerably slower then say a GT because of the lower timing and fatter fueling and lower compression

Bogging when entering boost sounds like you have some Knock retard issues or a misfire. Whats your mods

no mods. just a tune. I'm pretty positive it's just the bbv that's bad but how can the car still run so smoothly without the s/c?

^^^and it's definitely not slow. took off the s/c belt went WOT and the thing took off. I could feel the difference without the s/c but still very quick

Yes it is slow, you would be lucky to make 180hp on it. BBV will not cause a sputter or hesitation entering boost

I just told you how in the first post :th_doh:

To recap, The maf controls fueling by metering the air. Less Air = less fuel. You're still commanding a 11.5ish afr so it will still go rich when you go 30-100 percent throttle.

OOOOHHH i got it now. Sorry, i was confusing myself.

After driving it a little more gave me a better view at how crappy it still drives but it's still better than with the belt on.

It's not a sputter or hesitation. It's a continuous bog until I back off. Which after a little research I think is caused by the back pressure of the excessive boost not getting blown off. I think its the actuator specifically but I could be wrong.

But if thats the case, then it'd make sense when I took off the s/c belt that there was significantly less bogging because then there was no more back pressure from the boost. BUUUTTT now it's running a little rich which I can feel at certain RPM's

Just trying to get a grasp of things so apologies if I'm coming across a little ignorant. Cause I can fully admit I am lol

didnt read anything up until here, got a cat on the car? is it clogged?

Exactly what I was thinking when I read this. I don't think it's your BBV. The BBV uses vacuum to close a butterfly valve that allows boost to blow back up into the front of the supercharger before the rotors. When cruising, this valve is open making no boost since the extra pressure created by the spinning rotors is released back into the low pressure side of the supercharger. When you give it more gas, vacuum will cause this valve to close forcing the pressure from the spinning rotors into the motor giving you more power. Air that goes in, has to come out. If your cat is clogging up, that extra air when under boost will have a hard time getting through it. If the belt is off, the rotors are not spinning and forcing more air into the motor. Not as much air is trying to get through the clogged cat so it won't choke itself as bad. I would start at the cat to try and find the source of your problem.

It's got 180k.

Not the cat, just had that replaced not too long ago. and i can go 100%WOT now without getting any hesitation and/or bogging. Before i could go mayb 25-30%
