running without S/C belt?

So being random right now but i herd you can run a GTP without the S/C belt on and get pretty good MPG? IS it safe to do so? Just thought id ask cuz i herd a couple guys say that >.>

sure you can run without it. Never go above 40% tho, bad things could happen.

But the car is made to run with it on, and these cars already get pretty dam good mpgs for how big they are.

I don't see any positive reason to run your gtp without the s/c belt on. You can if you want.

I lost my S/C tensioner pulley on the track because the bolt stripped out. I ended up driving home on the interstate babying the car the entire way. If it wants to hit boost and you don't have boost to give it, you're gonna have huge problems!

The other thing is.. the PCM isn't even tuned to run without the s/c belt.. so you're basically running an untuned car and.. yea sh1t will get fvcked up.

Maybe i'm reading this wrong, but i'm assuming u didn't have a sc belt on it...right? So how can u have boost without a belt?

think about it like this. the rotors spin whenever the motor is on. they are designed to let air in only when the rotors move.

so by disabling the rotors the motor cant get air in properly.

I did not have an S/C belt on hence why I babied it so it wouldn't demand boost that it wasn't getting. Like bio said, you're gonna run rich as hell and risk damage to your motor.

Research how AFR and boost work for a more detailed answer to your question.

A supercharger is an air pump. A pump that is not turning becomes a massive restriction. Restrictions cause mph to go down.

It's not going to demand anything without that belt on it. It's just going to drive like a staight v6...a very slow one, but a regular v6. You can run the hell out of that car without a belt and you won't do any kind of damage to it. Believe me...i've done it.

Where did i say it was good? He doesn't know what he's talking about. Without the belt there is no boost to be demanded. If the supercharger pulley isn't turning how can you have boost? Someone come on here and explain to me how that's possible. On top of that u have over 16k post, and u don't know what he's stating is wrong? lol...damn! Haven't u learned anything in all those post?

It's not...Brian probably said something wrong. The car is still thinking it is making boost at WOT so its dumping all this fuel when it isn't needed.

Just leave the blower belt on there and drive it like it was made to be driven. If you can't handle the boost...stay out the throttle ;)

Its simple.. You want better mpg's stay out of the throttle.. Don't get into it and the s/c wont even come into play.

The ECU sees the boost. Its not going to give fuel for boost when there is no boost.

The only real issue with running without a belt is the resitriction.

Exactly! Finally someone else besides me with a reply to this topic who knows what he's talking about.
