Ran my 08' gxp up to redline in 1st gear and backed off without shifting into 2nd, car began to slow down then surged forward again...it did this 2-3 more times before leveling off. This is the first time this has happened since we've owned the car. Decided to take it out on the highway and see if it happened in all gears. Sure enough I ran it up to the same point in 2nd gear and backed off without shifting car did the same thing but it took a lot longer to level off. I got 5-6 surges where the RPM fluctuated and I could hear and feel the back pressure on the engine each time. Any ideas as to why this just started happening? It's the warmest day of the year, mid 70's not sure if that is related at all. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, yeah I'm aware of that, I've had it cutout on me before. It's the RPM fluctuations that isn't right, doesn't have to be exactly at redline it's happening at higher rpms generally. The RPMs will jump and the car will surge forward, this happens quite a few times before it levels off. Failed to mention also that the shifting into higher gears seems to be slow and sluggish, the car seems to hesitate before shifting.
