rough idle hesitation and stalling

hey all I'm going crazy with this car basically the problem is this. the car either starts fine then begins to idle rough and stalls out or it won't start at all, some times with out warning the car just dies usually while stopped at a light. the engine runs rough most of the time but when it dies there is a strong smell of gas or simply very very rich exhaust. have already replace fuel filter, spark plugs ,wires, fuel pressure regulator, air filter, fuel pump relay and when I replaced the MAF sensor the car ran worse with the new one...figure that eh.

either way any help would be great personaly leaning toward either the ignition coils or injectors.

k so car it still doing the same thing after new ignition coils were put in havn't replace the crank sensor yet but just wondering when it dies the fuel reader drops significantly but then will recover to normal after its been driving for a bit feels like the timing is off but the ignition coils spark plugs and wires are all new... any chance it could be fuel pump or injectors....and yes when it dies the smell of gas is enough to make you think your in the tank... getting really sick of this car...

Most of the stuff you have replaced is common maintenance stuff, if you don’t expect to do that kind of stuff ride a bike because all vehicles require similar maintenance. Regardless of the fact none of it apparently had failed. And do you really think replacing a “good” part will make your car run any better?

The very first thing I would have done is clean the throttle body. Its maintenance many ppl don’t even realize needs to be done. Just had a couple ppl recently with similar problems and that was the fix. You can’t expect to drive a car forever and do nothing, then try replacing every part senselessly with out results then blame the car.:th_shakinghead2:

The coils can be checked easily with an ohm meter, or indirectly by misfires. You know there is a reason car manufacturers were mandated to implement OBD. Have you have the car scanned for codes yet?

And most fueling issues can be diagnosed with the use of a fuel pressure gauge. Have you used one of those yet? Or is your plan to replace the whole fuel system based on smelling gas once?
 
listen bud if I wanted a prick answer I would have taken the car to a dealer! asshole and I'm aware that what I started with is maintenance but I'm simply giving the back ground and as far as codes there is a misfire and an o2 sensor code my mechanic told me to replace the coils because I got a deal on all 3. as far as my frustration I've had this car all of 6 months and had nothing but problems because the last owner did nothing but beat it so excuse me all to hell if I wanna ask if some one has heard of this similar thing and can point me to something with out me purchasing a $75 fuel tester which I had to because of ***** comments like yours!

try the o2 sensor. i get a million people a day who say their engine has stalled, run scan and o2 sensor is bad

Please show me where cerick called you a prick or an asshole.

Then you can call him such names.

But as far as I can see, those comments are absurd considering he was giving you valid advice given the comments present in this thread.

So please try to keep those remarks to yourself.
 
I would try the ECM. I had the same problem with my car last year. Had it at the garage for a month before the mechanic would listen to me. The ECM ended up being the issue. Thanks to everyone on this forum when I researched what could be wrong and found that answer
 


I would lean towards a bad 02 sensor like stated above. Without a scanner tho it really is a crap shoot to guess whats bad.
 
I finally gave up with all the possibilities so I took mine in under other warranty work at NTB and they said its the MAP sensor. I haven't replaced it yet to see if that resolves the issue, but if it works I'll let you know
 
OK so it wasn't the map sensor but I've noticed my car runs ok when it's cold but as soon as it warms up it wants to die out stall and hiccup. Could exhaust be the problem? Possible bad cat?
 
Ignition control module. they only show symptoms of failure when they get warm. take it to autozone or advance and have one of the tools in there test it for you while its still hot.
