Rough Acceleration

Red01GTP

New member
'01 GTP bone stock with 120k on it. Accelerated rough under boost, but it was throwing a #3 injector code, a misfire code, and an O2 code. So I figured it was tied to the bad injector. Replaced the #3 injector and reset the ECU, all the codes cleared. The O2 code hasn't come back yet, but it's still accelerating really rough. I let it warm up and took it to some back country roads and gave it full throttle from a stop. Very rough acceleration, down on power, and it momentarily threw a #2 cylinder misfire code. It seems to be tied to the boost. Around 30-40% throttle with minimal boost it accelerates fine. It idles fine. The muffflers are off right now because I need to repair a weld in the exhaust piping but I don't think that's the problem. Any ideas?

Re: Rough accerleration

Figure out what cylinder is still misfiring.

Pull the plugs, maybe even just replace them. Inspect the wires and terminal ends on the coils, they could be causing it to run rough.

Re: Rough accerleration

swap coils around see if it moves the misfire. you can also move the plug and the wire one by one, trying to make the misfire move.

Re: Rough accerleration

Check the white part of the plug(it's called porciline but I can"t spell it right), It may have carbon tracking on it. Carbon tracking looks hair line cracks, I had the same problem with mine. I switched to NGK TR6 plugs and new OEM wires and problems where solved.

Re: Rough accerleration

The plug in that picture doesn't look new at all. It looks as bad as my 15,000 mile plugs I changed out yesterday.

Re: Rough accerleration

It ended up being a loose wire on the #2 plug. I'm planning on swapping them out for some colder ones in the near future anyway. Thanks for all the help!
