Rotors and Pads yourself?

I just found out that my front pads and rotors need replacing. I can get the parts from the shop but I was wondering if I should spend the $130 CAD for labor or get my big bro to do them to save money? But I was wondering if it is difficult or not too do in my 99 GP GT. he said he could do it if i brought down the car too him but I was just wondering if its better to do it at a shop for like $2xx bucks or get the parts for like $130-160 bucks and then put them on myself. All comments appreciated!

brakes are about the easiest job there is, maintenance wise. watch your brother/help him, you know, give a man a fish, or teach him how to fish deal.

easy easy easy do it yourself, you can have your brother show you and get the wrenches out and have him walk you through it and youll know for the rest of your life. dont waste your money with a shop doing it.

rust means nothing. take the bolts off, pull the caliper off, then the bracket, then the rotor comes right off.

use a old pad and a C clamp to open the calipers. ( lay the old pad over the piston, then clamp it open. open the master cylinder cap first) new rotor on, bracket back on, then pads and caliper, done deal, its a bout 30 minutes per side. faster if you know what your doing.

Do them yourself. It's easy and you'll learn so if you have to tackle brakes in the future you'll already know what to do.

I've had rotors rusted onto the hub so bad I've had to use a sledge to break them free. Other than that its an easy job.

I think BillBoost is the only guy on the forums who doesn't do his own brakes :th_biggrin2: hahaha j/k

Uh..er what? I have rotors and pads on the way from R1 Concepts at this moment. An hour tops and they'll be fresh. I might even check the rears for the hell of it. Afterall..the brakes on my car all have 60K miles on them.
