Rotor pack bearings

So I have a blower and it sounds like the bearings between the gears and the rotors are bad. Now before anyne asks about couplers, and snout bearings, all have been replaced, and everything did spin freely prior to install (still spins as a matter of fact).

When you put the belt on and spin the blower at idle it sounds like a rocjk crusher, and on my M62 powered car the same issue cam up, replaced the rotor pack and the probelm was solved. So how hard are these bearings to change?
 


Do you own or have access to an arbor press?

Are you good at making jigs, such as custom fabrication work, to hold the assembly just right while your using it on the arbor press?

Its more than taking a hammer and a punch to get them out, and back together while keeping them in time and balance.

There are company's that have core rebuilding service, as well as recoating services out there on line, but you could buy a couple of good used blowers shipped for what one rebuild rotor assembly will run you. Example, around $350.00 to $380.00 just for the rotors before shipping.

I have been working on, with myself, to start offering this service to everyone at an affordable price. I will have to invest in a few pieces of equipment first ,so everything will me 100% done in house to keep the cost down for everyone. My goal is to keep it in the $200.00 to $250.00 range (or less) for everyone. This will include bearings, seals, and rotor recoating.

Personally, I would search ebay, or car-part.come for a good low mileage blower, and pray the rotor assembly is a good one you can switch into your cars blower and call it good for the mean time.

My GenV knocked since the day I bought it, and now its so loud, you can hear it inside the car. It still builds boost fine, and does not give my any knock, but it sounds horrible. So I bought 2 GenV's as a package deal to replace mine for what one normally goes for anywhere else. The other is already been claimed by a local so don't ask about the other one.

The polished one on my car now, will be either rebuild, and sold, or sold as is.

Thanks Jason. I talked to a guy at PSE, and while knowledgeable, was kind of a tool. I have found a good used one I am going to go look at Wednesday, I am going to check the coupler, as well we the oil and rotor pack. I am currently running my car sans the belt till I figure out what I want to do.

FYI the PSE guy quoted me $539 for an entire rebuild. or I can get a new rotor pack from ZZP for $425......

I'd buy a complete blower off ebay for $150.00 to $200.00 shipped and have "extra" stuff left over. :th_biggrin2: Thats what I do personally.

But...do what ya want. LOL

yeah but finding a Gen V with low miles and good bearings as we have found can be questionable, this gives me a basically brand new blower, with brand new coating on the rotors.
 
I just bought 3 GenV's for $450.00 each, so ya, deals are out there if you know where to look.

Funny you said GenV rotor bearings out as well. My GenV has less than I'd day 5K miles on it total, and its knocking horrible, but still builds boost find, 10-12PSI no problem, and the knocking blower does not trigger knock through the motor. One of the three GenV's I just bought was to replace my blower all together.
