roll cage/ gutted interior

It will be less than 300 if I do it so why pay someone 1000+ and its not just some tubes part of its assembled and it comes with the feet and everything ill get yoy guys a link saturday
 


I have a custom chromoly roll bar. I still use my full interior since I drive the GP on the street and do car shows.

What I did for weight is remove front and rear bumper support bars. I'm in the process of having custom chromoly supports bars made which will still be lighter. When I race, I clean out the trunk, glove box, center console and passenger seat. I take out the bottom part of the rear seat. I have a aluminum subframe. I also have a race battery. I put in a lightweight racing seat.Even lighter then one in pics below.

Sal, how did you mount your race seat? I just bought a set, but I am try to figure out how to mount them up. I have been looking for a manual slider for the driver side, but I seem to be having a probem finding one. It looks as though the race seats would bolt up to a stock frame, just from mocking up it up with a passanger slider that I have.

Any info would be great!! Oh, and I really love the look of that cage!! Very nice!
 


Swing out bars are legal I think till 10.00. You need a roll bar once you go 11.49 and faster. All the 8 points are welded to plates which are welded to the car floor. This was installed by a professional race shop who does cages for cars running in the 7's and 8's. Mine is legal. I've been to the track and never had a problem with inspection.

Since I don't have the capability and material of making my own bracket, I bought a drivers side seat bracket from Ed Morad. I then gutted the bracket. I then took some 3/4" (for front) and 1 1/2" (for back) Mechanical/Electrical channel. I mounted the channel to the seat bracket and then took the adjustable bracket that comes with the racing seat and mounted it to the channel. I used spring nuts and hardened bolts to make things easier. After all was done I took some sheet metel and made an right angle of it then painted balck. Then screwed it to the main seat bracket to cover up the brackets and make it look neat and stock looking. It is lighter then a stock seat. I also covered the channel with painted sheet metal so you don't see the bracket. This method is very secure and strong. I use this channel and hardened bolts at work.

Sal, thanks for posting up the pics of the seat, that helps. I just need to get mine finished up and ready for this race season. But I need to get my motor back from the machine shop before my car will go anywhere. Thanks again!
