Rocker Arm Bolt size and grade

TEK310

im gonna buy rocker arm bolts from a hardware store, instead of waiting on them to be shipped. Anyone know the size and grade of the bolt that comp cams offers?

If you can't wait just get them from a parts store. If you use some hardware store bolts you're going to mess something up bad. Not to mention it's going to be a different metal than the stock bolts and so you won't have to correct torque if they would even work.

I bought some from PRJ and they're better than grade 8 supposedly. I wouldn't use hardware store bolts, but I wouldn't use part's store bolts either since they're TTY. PRJ had them to me pretty quickly, so it was worth the wait for me.

you guys are over thinking this.. a bolt is a bolt. the grade of the bolt and size are what matter. i want non-tty bolts

i will email zzp about it

Prj?

lol then all you need to do is go to ace (the only places around here that have any decent selection of bolts....)

and pick up some 5/16ths coarse thread allen head capscrews with 2" UHL iirc

We will help you fix your valvetrain in a few months when you pull the threads out of the head / have a rocker arm decide to go on vacation in the middle of a wot pull.... Seriously... Their are hundreds of differnt alloys and whatnot for a reason. One alloy might do great under high shear low load applications where the next alloy might do great under high load no shear applications. There is a reason that on crazy 4g63 1000+ horsepower builds people spend hundreds if not thousands on bolts / prepping the bolt holes for the cylinder head. You wouldn't use hardware store grade 8 bolts on your cylinder head would you? My guess is they will go in / torque down fine but they will snap off from heat cycling / the crazy high vibration / tension / torsion that rockers see. Or they will snap when you go to take them out.

Edit. Something like this
