No not the tv show that sucks...

This AOL article lets us know that changing the oil in our cars every 3000 miles is a waste of time and money.
Oil Change Education

The article goes on to promote this website which will tell you how many miles you should go between changes.
CalRecycle | Check Your Number | Change Motor Oil Only As Needed

I found an issue with this website within about 3 seconds.

Why must such stupid ass people be able to write ridiculous articles that millions of people will read?

How about dirty oil in 1000 miles or less.

Magnetic drain plug full of deposits in the same time period.

And to be fair: it IS a waste of money.

have your oil analyzed next time you're thinking of changing it.

Note: that website said change my oil at 3000 miles.

which is wrong.

read your gm owners manual.

its OLM or 6 months.

Guess what, my OLM when driving 100% city, most of the time under 1 mile trips, hardly being warmed up, still suggests ~3000 mile oil changes.

And thats assuming conventional oil.

I run synthetic.

I forgot your sole purpose on the intrawebs was to get a rise out of people.

oh well.........................

If you put in an 04 prix it says 3000 lol

tapatalking

And if you put in 2006 Prix it says 3000 and an 07 Prix it says 7500...
The point is millions of people read this garbage and I wonder why no one knows what the hell is going on.

What changed from 2006 to 2007?

That isn't normal, you have problems.

At 6K km's my oil is far from diesel-like black, and there are few fillings on the magnet.

Granted, 3800's are not aluminum.

beats on car.

as soon as coolant is at 160*.

Oh yes i know its not normal.

motor is going to see a dumpster soon enough.

If your car is modified, I change my full synthetic with a K&N filter every 3k miles or less in the racecar.

The DD will get oil changes when the oil life percentage gets to zero.

Second link states:
The Check Your Number widget’s “number” is the recommended oil change mileage interval for your car, based on normal driving conditions. The actual oil change interval may vary depending on various factors, such as driving conditions, the condition of the car, and/or the type/brand of engine oil applied.

I'm not sure where the beef is with the AOL article myself. Its just stating that manufacurers are now extending oil change reccomendations under normal driving conditions, so that people who have more frequent changes save money and oil for the rest of us.

Until there is a service bulletin or a statement by an oil analysis engineer saying that conventional engine oil of today's API/SAE or whatever standards can be safely extended well beyond the 3k mile mark, I will continue to change mine at 3,000; synthetic or not.

I use standard conventional Mobil oil in my GTP and usually change at the 3000 mark(+/-) and it usually says about 40% (+/-) on the DIC and it comes out mostly clean, dark but not black nastiness or anything. With Mobil1 in my Miata I would change every 5k and it would come out looking like new Pennzoil lol (slightly darker than it went in). Most people I see with new cars using synthetics come in around 7-8k and the oil is getting dark but could probably still go further. Altho, we had a new Acadia come into the dealership with 13k on the clock on the original 5x30 dexos syn blend that came in it, and said it was down to 0% on the oil readout and needed to be changed, but also the engine was running funny. The oil had sludged up and the engine was replaced... I took pictures because it was just shocking that someone went that far, tho it was almost all highway, he should have changed it long before 13k for the FIRST OIL CHANGE!

rob dyrdek may suck as a tv show host. but i like the show better than tosh.o. there is more videos rather than spending 10 minutes talking about 1 video that most of the time isnt even that funny.

oh, and i agree that changing your oil is good.
