Ridiculous Shipping on Ebay?

So.. I recently got lucky enough to win myself a set of GXP seats for only $100. Cool enough, but..... now I get this E-Mail showing the price of my winning bid + shipping cost.

I hate to say it but there is no way in hell I am going to pay basically double the price of these seats to get them shipped and then on top of that still have to pay for the seats themselves.

How exactly would I go about contacting them and telling them that they either need to find another method to ship these seats or I'm not taking them?

wow every one go tthere hand out there...
there should be a spot up top to contact e-bay
and the seller should have a e-mail addie also to respond to.

Contacted the seller. Also I priced what it would cost me to ship those seats myself from where I live to his place and it's only $51 per seat.

Anyways, what should I do if the guy is an ass and claims he can't ship it cheaper?

He didnt get his price that he wanted so he jacked up the cost of shipping to compensate for it. happens to me all the time on there. I'd email paypal, and the seller send them a copy of your shipping quote. heck...you could probably get a quick quote for shipping form his general area.....if his location is listed.

good luck, I would contact paypal and seller...your going about it the right way. you can also get his contact info and physicly call him up and speek with him. BUT...get paypal involved!!!! otherwise..he may leave a nonpaying bidder.......

GOOD luck!!

Thanks for the info. Other than him leaving a 'nonpaying bidder' remark there is nothing else he can do about it right? Since I sure as hell won't pay that price.

no, but once you get soo many nonpaying bidders..your account may get suspended for quite some time. best idea is to get ebay involved...that way your covered

Cool, I'll definitely have everyone I can involved and all the documents saved if I get a reply from him that is 'less than satisfying'.

I just wanted to make sure that I can't get into any kind of legal trouble over telling him to go screw himself. Metaphorically speaking of course. ;)

Yeah... I'm not sure if there is anything you can do or not to be honest. I always thought ebay bidding was a legally binding contract or whatever?

you can contact ebay about it.

i sell stuff alot, and they will actually email you to get a shipping quote if they think the price it too high. get a quote, and send it to ebay.

Yeah overpriced shipping happens all the time, and seems to be in the top 3 of complaints on ebay, that I have seen.

What was the item number? Did they list any kind of shipping details?

Item number is... 320201253591

Only thing it mentions about shipping is to 'contact them' and it only shows their location as being 'Midwest, United States'

I got a quote from FedEx on what it would cost me to send my seats to them and it was only $51 per seat.

he may be figuring truck freight, as fed ex won't ship them if they are not taken apart (I used to sell used parts and dealt with it before)

not too bad, I just got a quote on a ham radio antennae that is 12 feet long and only 60 pounds and it was $217 if I take it to them, and the guy picks it up from the terminal

Yeah, but then again a seat doesn't weigh anywhere near 60 pounds nor is it anywhere close to being 12 foot long at any angle.

freight is done by class, and number of pieces (and a little on weight, both together probably are close to 60 pounds) size is not even a factor. I used to ship engines for the same price as a door

Yeah unfortuately seats, like the guys CB antenna are bulk items and are thrown into that frieght category due to their dimensions.

It sucks that eBay allows their sellers to jack up their prices, but eBay keeps raising fees for the sellers there and their only way up to now has to been jack up their shipping.

If you ever notice on their HID Kits, they are selling them for like $50 bucks now with $23-25 for shipping. Shipping a package containing 2 balasts, bulbs and wiring DOES NOT cost $25. But that is how they recoup their money. The more money they actually sell an item for costs them more money. So they lower the bid price and jack up shipping.

It's a sad trend indeed :(

I hope you get it worked out.

I would just politely tell them that you got a quote from FedEx for $51 per seat and ask if they would be willing to ship them that way. If not, ask if it's okay to arrange your own shipping if they will get the seats ready to go.

I guess the absolute worst that could happen is they could file a non-paying bidder complaint against you and they could leave you a negative mark on your feedback. I doubt Ebay will do anything about it since it does say "contact them" or whatever. Just looking at it from Ebay's eyes, I'm sure they will say you should have asked about shipping costs before you placed your bid.

Don't take that personal, it's not a dig at you at all. That's just what I would lay money on being Ebay's point of view. I definitely think it's BS and I see it all the time. Undoubtedly they knew freight would be high on these and they should have pointed it out in the description.
