Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Rewire!

Hey all. Getting ready to order all my stuff this week for a DVD install. Rather than dealing with the garbage monsoon wiring cluster _____, I've decided i'm just gonna wire straight from headunit/amps to the doors/rear deck with brand new wiring.

Has anyone run NEW wire from HU to doors? Easy? Any tricks? The rear deck will be easy, but i've never run new wires to the doors of any cars.

Also, any good ideas on mounting/placing an A/V input in the backseat somewhere? Not how-to, but if you were to do it, where would you put it? I was thinking maybe in the cupholder behind the console...

I would definitely utilize factory wiring if you're running off the head unit. Not because it's "easy" but because running new wire makes absolutely no sense. Try me...I'll explain :)

because i have monsoon, so the leads from the amp are split into 2 different channels that are crossed over from the monsoon amp. I want to bypass that POS amp completely.

agreed, I wouldn't rewire anything unless you've got a break in the wiring causing a speaker to not work, like my rear ones.

To me, it seems easier to just run the wires straight from HU to speaker. Yes, splicing is not hard, but I would have to splice and/or rewire the speaker connectors as they are split into tweeter/woofer and if I ever wanted to go back to stock for resale, I'd have to splice it back. I'd like to keep everything in place to easily go back to stock without modifying over a previous mod.

Trust me... I have googled. If it takes someone 7 hours to run some speaker wire, they got problems in the first place. Took me an hour to do this in my last car with exception of doors. Was extremely nice to sell the car. took everything out and plugged it all back in the way it was. Google returns many more happy campers for those that just rewired.

PS. Your link was for the camaro which is a different system in the first place.

if you get the wiring harness it just plugs in to the stock interface.... your splicing the aftermarket harness with your HU harness........

well obviously. That doesn't solve the fact that that harness goes to the trunk into the monsoon, then out to each speaker as 2 separate signals.

imo if i was you i'd just get a nice 4 Channel amp and run the wire from the amp to speakers, why not upgrade if your going to be doing all the extra work?

Basically you run the wire to each side of the car, pop the factory door grommets (that house the factory wiring) out of the door sill and door. And run the wire through it. Pop the grommets back in and make your connections. Its a lot easier if you have a glow rod or just a metal hanger that you can feed and pull the lines through the grommet.

Thanks Keith. That's all I wanted to know. I have a small metal snake I can use.

I'm running the wires for a 4 channel amp too, but I don't have one yet. I'm basically rewiring everything so when the car is "de-modded", the stereo will be a piece of cake with all original stuff in tact.

gotta be nice knowing that your going to demod...

I put a ton of miles on my cars so once the value is starting to be less than what I owe, I get rid of it while I can. Its not like i'm looking forward to a de-mod, but I dont like to trade in a car to a dealer that's gonna rip all the stuff out and throw it out or sell it. I'd rather A) Keep the stuff or B) sell it myself.
