hi i know this is a fourm for grand prixs but i cant find one for bonnevilles so there allmost the same car so i thought some one could help me on here ... i got a 1998 bonneville and i just rebuilt the transmission and dynoed it i watched it get dynoed and it was fine everthing worked well ...... well i dint have time to put the trans back in so it sat for about 4 months or so... so i put it in last week and now to get reverse to engauge i have to play with the gas peddle i dont understand ..... what could of happend while it sat? ... right now if i put it in reverse it just sits there till i blip the throttle a cupple times ill rase the rpms to like 2 g then back to idle and ill do it agen sometimes it will engauge when it comes back down to idle orther times ill have to sit there and countinusly play with the throttle and shifter to get it to engauge but when it does it works perfectly i can go like 40 if i wanted to in reverse im starting to hate this car i just want to burn it please helppppppppp

Did you check the shifter linkage to make sure it lines up properly between the trans and the shifter itself? If it is no aligned correctly it can cause low pressure. Also when you rebuilt the trans did you use an OE lip seal on the reverse apply servo or an aftermarket long style lip seal? Reverse is not a very common problem to have and there are only a few things that can cause it not to work properly and the apply servo is the only thing you can get to externally.

Since the linkage is ok and the seal sounds right you arent left with much that could be wrong. If the lip seal rolled out of the groove or wasnt seated all the way when it was installed that can cause your problem also. Other than this you are left with a potentially damaged channel plate gasket, boost valve problem in valve body, or unlikely a band problem which shouldnt allow it to work at all. As far as the trans working on the dyno.... That is a big reason I am not a huge fan of them. They may test OK on a dyno but there is no way to simulate real world in-car condtions except in-car. With minimal load or drag on the output of the trans reverse may have seemed to work fine. Now that you have a 3500lb car working against the holding power it adds more into the equation.

ya that makes sense ... this weekend im just goin to beat the living **** out of it mybe the boost valve is gettin stuck mabey some of that blue trans goop from holding the check balls got in there and is just enoufe to f*** aroud with it.... well if beating the d*ck off of dont do nothing i guess monday ill pull the servo and study it then burn the dam car lol im ready for it to be gone lol thanks alot for your help
