retro help

Just got a 98 gtp and the headlights are horrible. This winter I'm going to install new stock housings with hid projectors retrofitted into them. Thanks for all the links hockey! I'd be interested in seeing your "black chrome" look.

Just make sure you take your time, the retro process can be an SOB but when it's done it's definitely worth it.

Slight gap in the headlights kills me.

me too, but I gave up trying to fix it because then my alignment is off.

Love the look of the headlights though. Good job.

I don't have any output pics yet, but I will work on getting some. Right now I'm at college so it may be a couple weeks before I get some output pics.

to be honest there is some crossbeam (i didn't take enough time properly test fitting before I sealed 'em up) but they are still way better than stock.

My advice to others doing a retro; test fit, test fit, test fit; and when you think you have the pattern you want, check it again before sealing them up!

Glad to see you got them done, when I did mine it felt like it took forever.

I'm curious as to how you did your cuts and fitment and so on.

Ya, it does seem like a long freaking project doesn't it?

The cuts were all done with a dremel cutoff wheel. You probably know how the housing was cut. For the shroud I cut out the rectangular sections top and bottom one by one until I got close then I took off a little bit at a time until I got the fit I wanted.

Once I got the projectors rotationally correct, I got a little excited because I was almost done and I didn't take much care in checking for crossbeam. I did but I just went through that step a little too quick. I used clear RTV to help hold the projectors in their place, it wasn't needed but I figured why not cuz once you put the lens on you're not taking it back off. RTV'd the lenses let them dry threw the lights on the following day to realize... damn, I should been more diligent when checking for cross beam. O well, they still kick the shiz outta stock headlights.
 


Trying to get the locking nut on the back to sit flush with the capsule was a pain too. Lots of grinding to get it even.

With the projectors pretty much just sitting on the bottom of the inside of the capsule my levels stayed pretty even, but a little off and I just used the factory headlight adjustments to bring both steps together at around 40-50 feet.
