So i jsut installed a new audio system... 2 subs, 2 amps, 6x9's and a headunit. there is still more i need to do to it before its ready but anyway my real problem is now that i have all this stuff in my car i want to disable the retained accessory power (RAP). does anyone know how this might be done? this RAP thing was ok before i upgraded my audio system but now it runs the risk of draining my battery if everything stays on... It gets really annoying having to open the door so everything will turn off...

thanks,
Landon

The RAP circuit turns off after 8-12 minutes. Not worth the work to disable the feature IMO... If your battery can't run the radio for 8 minutes, you have more pressing problems.

If you still feel the need to do so, the RAP circuit is a function of the BCM. You can simply unplug the RAP relay. IIRC, it is located to the right and behind the glove box.

The RAP relay doesn't have any effect on the radio's RAP. The radio receives a signal over the Class 2 bus to turn on and off. It always has power, otherwise.

Well, that's how the Impala works anyway.

oh sry, yeah i guess i wasnt thinking, lol. its a 1998 Grand Prix GTP... also i've tryed removing the fuse labeled RAP and that just cuts all the power to the windows, sunroof, radio, and power locks even when the car is on...

You'll have to re-route some BCM wiring to accomplish what you want. Let me know if you need a diagram.
