• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Reputation points?

Does anyone know how to look at your own reputation points? I just noticed that I have one, and I was curious to read it!

I've looked at my profile, user cp, etc - I can't find a way! I'm going to feel pretty stupid if its right in front of my eyes.... but I need some direction.

Thanks!

When you make a post, click on your own rep icon (the little scales looking icon). Your rep power is different from you rep points. Your rep power is how much of an impact you have on other peoples rep points. So now, if you give an approving rep comment, you will increase their reputation points by 1. Mine for instance is 10. So if I select approve, then I add 10 points to their reputation, likewise if I select disapprove then I take 10 points from them.

I highly encourage use of the reputation system. It was a requested feature but it is getting VERY little use. It is a very good tool for being able to see who is giving out good information and helping out. If someone helps you, even if its not in a post, such as coming over to your place and helping you work on your car, come back here and post about it and give that person some points.

This way we all know who is really contributing and helping out in the community, who is making quality posts that are useful and helpful. I would also, whether it is to approve or disapprove, encourage you to enter a useful and constructive comment. That way we know the reason for either type.

My reputation is a 22, but my reputation Power is a 10. Hopefully that will help you understand how it works. So for instance, if you clicked on my rep icon and added an approving comment for me posting this to help you out (you dont have to, just giving an example) then my reputation points would go to 23 because you have a rep power of 1. If you had a rep power of 5 then I would go to 27. Does that help?

Definitley - thanks Scotty for shedding some light on it for me. I added to your rep too for being so helpful. And I agree, it would be nice to see more use of the rep feature.

However, is there a way for us to look and see which posts we were rewarded on? Maybe also see the comment/approval/dissaproval someone left? It would be nice to look back and see how I have helped someone...

Thanks again.

this is a good thing to know i am gonna do this for now and start looking at peoples rep points . :th_thumbsup-wink:

If you click on the User CP (control panel) the page you are taken to will have an area that shows your reputation received. It will show you the thread it was given in, who gave it the comment and so on.

Again, I encourage all of you to use it. Its a great tool. There is a large portion of this community that put in time and help here and I believe in them being recognized for that.

Also, I was very serious about giving reputation points for things that take place outside the forum. The example I used was if someone comes over to your house and helps you or gives great effort to help you out with an issue, then come back here and tell us about it. When that person responds in that thread, give them reputation points.

In fact, I may look into creating a section here just for that. A place where we can come and toot the horn of those that have went out of their way to sustain this community. I think seeing that and seeing how it makes people feel and the way people rally around such things would encourage others to do so, and THAT is what I envision here.

Ive said it before, I'll say it again. I want this community to be so happening, so exciting, so involved that people outside of the community cannot stand NOT being a part of it and go find a Grand Prix, a Regal, a Monte Carlo, etc just so they too can be a part of it and benefit from it.

But that wont happen without all of you. If you look to me and the other Admins and Mods to do this alone, it will not happen. It takes all of us, no matter how minor the contribution, it takes all of what we are able to give to make such a vision happen. One of the ways that starts is to recognize those that are helping out, going through the trouble to research to come up with good answers or posting from their vault of knowledge and sharing it. That doesnt mean we become lazy and just let a select few contribute, it means if the person takes the time to help out then you honor that and take the time to take notes, write something down and remember it, build upon it, grow it then return it better than you got it.

I don't see my rep power or anything like that in my user cp, I think it may be that I am either blind as a bat or just plain computer stupid. haha.

Hey scotty this question sound fimiliar?? lol

****The rep power ''recived'' is at the very bottom of the user cp page.*****

But i cannot find where it says who gave it to me

Now I think I deserve at least a rep power for that...j/k

Woo hooo - Found it. Just click the CP and scroll down to the bottom. It only shows your 'latest' reputation points though... and I'm guessing its anonymous because I don't see any indication of names. Also - I'm guessing that if there is N/A for comments, then the person simply didn't leave a comment.

I recommend that if you are going to approve or dissaprove of somebody's post - it's really helpful to give a brief comment on how they assisted or unassisted you. Especially because I believe it's anonymous...

Glad to see people starting to use the feature, and I hope it will spark some interest and become more popular in the near future. Thanks! :th_peaceout:

It is at the bottom of the page. That is if you have any.It will say ''Latest Reputation Received ''

lol...hey i saw someone with negative points the other day :th_tongue2:

Okay, I can see my the rep given. But it doesn't say who gave it....

Same with mine but i got a good idea since he was the one agreeing with me in the thread and after i did some testing we were both right....they just forgot to put a comment..so in the future if you leave rep power at least leave a comment on why you are doing so.....

Maybe I can see all the info I do because Im admin, I did not consider that. So what I can see and do may well be wildly different that what all of you can. Sorry for the confusion.
