Replace stock headlights 2008 grand prix

I want to put in new bulbs on my head lights on my 08 grand prix.
I was looking at HID's. Do you think they would be worth to invest in?
if so, whats the max wattage i could get away with without melting anything?
and if i was to replace my fog light bulbs, what would you recommend for there?
I want very bright for my headlights. as i don't feel my stock ones are adequate.
