Replace steering box and pump on 97 GP.

Hello Everyone: I am new to this, and I have a question. I know someone that has 97 GP, and has a problem with the power steering box and pump. Not sure if it is one or both. Ive been asked to replace them. Has anyone out there done this, and if so have a guide list on how to do this? Also was there a recall on this problem at one time, and if so can I still have it done? The car only has 21k miles on it and the owner is 73 and still able to drive well.

to replace the rack and pinion you need to drop the cradle in the rear, and disconnect the outter tie rods from the knuckle, then unbolt the rack from the cradle and slide it out the driver side wheel well. you WILL need an alignment after this.

to do the pump, take the belt off and feel around through the holes in the pulley, there will be 2 13mm bolts to take out. then you have the pressure like that needs disconnected and the rubber return line.

both very straight forward repairs.
