Replace Magnasteer Rack with Regular Rack?

Hi All,

97 Pontiac GTP with 138K on the clock. Magnasteer variable assist rack is dead. I have access to free non variable assist rack. Can I swap?

Did alot of searching with no clear answer. Does anyone know if Magnasteer rack dimensions are same as regular rack? Is steering linkage the same? Any help would be appreciated.

I have learned that the dimensions are the same but that the pressure line is different. Thought I would let everyone know.
 
They are probably different, the biggest difference I think is in the pump assembly. Are the part numbers the same? I wouldn't chance it.
 
HI,

Thanks for the tip. My additional searching shows they are just too different animals and for the price of a replacement v-assist rack is not prohibitive in comparison to the work of replacing 2 racks.
