Replace catback or attempt to fix?

Well I have been dealing with exhaust leaks for the past week and I finally took the time and crawled under the car and see what was causing all these leaks.

Well before I started modding the car, I saw that the previous owner already has replaced the stock resonator for what looks like a glasspack. I never til this day noticed the size of the inlet/outlet. So today when attempting to fix a small leak at the flange meet point, I noticed that from the flange it goes down to a 2' all the way to the small 14'~ glasspack and then goes back to the stock piping.


The thing that I saw was that it was welded really close before the bend into the Y. That brings up my concern about not being able to just do a slip fit fix with a aftermarket glasspack since I have a few laying around the garage..

My question is, should I just leave it alone? or is the 2' at the point where its restrictive? My fix would be cutting off the 2' glasspack right before it merges to the stock catback Y. Replace it with a slip fit 2.5' resonator and straight pipe it to the flange meet after the cat.

Another thing I have thought about is replacing the stock mufflers with something better sounding. I have always heard and been told about Borla being a decent sounding muffler. I have heard some flowmastered 3800s around here and they sound terrible at anything higher than 3k rpm.

Any suggestions?
 


I seen a video on youtube of this kid that replaced his cat back with 3" straight piped and instead of the res he put a big truck muffler in there and it actually sounded pretty mean, and no rasp at all so i was thinking about doing this but would like some feedback from people.
 
A friend of mine did the same with his old 3800 Camaro, Put a long Glasspack where the cat went after the Y and straight piped it all the way back. It sounded pretty mean under 4k rpm.

It seems to me the stock Catback has been hacked too much for my taste. I might just get a replacement for it all. Any ideas?
