removing tint.

Does anybody have some tips on removing window tint? My GTP was tinted when i got it and since I bought it out of state I have to get it inspected and R.I. allows NO tint on any area of a passenger car. I got the windshield strip, side windows and the little windows for the rear seat done and it was a real P.I.T.A., goo gone and some bumper sticker remover I got from autozone didnt help all that much and I spent hours with a razor blade getting the glue off. Now i have to do the rear window and when i pulled the tint it seems the glue is tinted so it looks like I didnt touch it. I don't want to ruin my rear defroster but I can't think of anything that will get it off otherwise. I might try paint thinner on a rag but I would like any suggestions from others who have had to do this.

I had to pull the tint on my truck b/c a ticket and not wanting the points. I cant really help that much with the defroster lines but as for the rest... a tint guy told me this... The best way to remove it was in the whole sheet use a razor blade to peel back one of the corners and with stead pressure pull it off like a big sticker then use allot of soapy water (dish soap) and that same razor blade to scrap the glue off. worked great for me didn't scratch at all and they came clean ez but i still would be careful with the blade. As for the defroster lines I would try slow and steady with allot of the soapy water to try and break down the glue. Either way let us know how it works when you get it off hopefully another member can give you better advice on the defroster lines. Good luck

Removing tint, grab and pull.

The clean up of the glue is what sucks ass.

I have used a lot of chemicals, and the best thing that I found that doesn't hurt your hands or anything it gets on is Imperial Cleaner.

Also works freaking awesome for removing tar, VHT, and rubber off your cars paint with out damaging it. :th_thumbsup-wink::th_thumbsup-wink:

If yo hadn't pulled the tint off yet a heat gun works great. You can still use a heat gun on the back window to soften the glue that is still on there and hit the open areas with the blade and what ever is left with a rag. Then once all the areas a cooled down, get some dish soap and a clean rag to clean up the rest. Dawn dish soap seems to work pretty good for me. Still will take a little time to get it all cleaned off, but should be a little easier.

Thanks bro, I ran the car to an inspection station yesterday with the back window still dark, I was suprised it passed because I had a tranny built the day before and when you reset the pcm (disconnected the battery) it usually fails immediatly but since the state gave me till the 31st to get it inspected or turn in the plates I figured at least if I fail it would buy me a month. For some reason it passed and $50 made him overlook the tint but I still have to get it off because its just glue now.

If we didn't have rear window defrost and the antenna on the cars, those little blue bottle propane torches work excellent. Heating up from the outside of course.
