Removing throttle body studs

Bedwards

New member
Hey guys. The top stud attaching my throttle body to the supercharger is stripped and I cannot tighten it. I'm pretty sure this is causing a vacuum leak, which is causing my car to run very rich. How the hell do you remove these studs from the supercharger housing? I tried a 5/32 socket on the head, but I could tell it would just damage the head. I'm stuck. =(

You might need to grab it down near the base with some vice-grips to spin it out. Try putting some heat to it or using some penetrating oil if it's really stuck.

You could try the poor man's stud extractor that I saw on another thread. You place a second nut on the stud to act as a stop nut. Use a wrench on both but only let the outside wrench move when the stud does. Used that in a pinch at the junk yard.

That stupid head just stripped, even with the external torx socket. I ended up taking the throttle body off and ran a M6x1.0 die on the threads of that stud. Worked excellent.
