Removing the battery

How did it take over an hour to jump it? It should take like 5 min to jump the deadest battery, do you know how to jump a vehicle?

If it is parked between other vehicles and your cables are not long enough to reach alongside, push it forward or back and pull right up to it with the jumper.

It is not much harder then changing batteries in a toy car!!
 


I changed an alt. on a back road with literally no lights but my cellphone.. Not hard guy, if you are really have this many problems maybe you should sell the car and buy a huffy.

Yes I know how to jump a vehicle. I connected the jumper cables like 50 different ways to the terminal. First off, the positive would barely stay on the positive terminal of my car. On top of that, my terminals are corroded and I had nothing to really clean them with at the time. I tried picking some off with a plastic piece in my car but it didn't do much good. And then if thats not enough, the jumper cables were $10 walmart ****, plus I have ring terminals that kind of get in the way. So ya, it's really not my fault that I couldn't get it started, it's never took me more than a few minutes in the past or with any other car, but I'm sure your jumper cable expertise would have came in handy.

You want a medal? i'm not having "this" many problems. i had one problem and i asked a question and I solved it with no thanks to you guys. Jesus, this has to be the least helpful board I've ever been to. I'm sorry I don't have a ton of experience with working on cars. I've done some minor things (mostly involving car audio) but that's it. I've changed a battery but I had trouble getting this one out and I'd think anyone with a GXP would probably understand my frustration. All I was asking was how to efficiently release the battery and i get flamed for that. Wow. Get a life guys.

I think he wants a cookie and not a medal so here is a cookie for him :th_fortunecookie: . This experience was a bad one because the question was something so simple as to changing a battery in a car. Other questions wouldn't have had such negative comments but it't about changing a damn battery, come on man!

You must have passed the several posts that told you EXACTLY how to remove that battery, don't worry, I'll thank those people for you! Thanks benner, TheOtherNick, and Madness!

Well look at that, the Batteries are in the EXACT SAME SPOT on all 3 sub models...

On the top of the fuse box is where you're supposed to place the positive cable if you're getting a boost.

Negative goes to an unpainted body part.

Neither end of the jumper cables should touch your battery when receiving a boost.

All of that should be covered in the owners manual.

As for the specific GXP coverage, it doesnt look much different at all to me. Minus the top post versus side post.

Calling the guy a tool is a bit much.

Bashing other members happens to be against the rules.
 


This is to funny. How is this the most unhelpful board you have been on? There are guys on this forum that can rebuild a 3800 blind folded. There are guys on here that know just about every damn bolt size on these cars. I have gotten help on other cars than Grand Prix's on this board.

I don't even mod my GP anymore but yet I still hang on this board because the Thunderbird forum is 90% people like you. So much infact that the long time members on TCCOA have made a video explaining it.

Try moving the fuse box and the diagonal brace...which is a 15mm IIRC...I don't have them so I can't recall. You'll need a 13mm for the battery tie down and possibly a 10mm for the fuse box nuts if you can't just unscrew them by hand.

Just because you can do something doesnt make you a helpful poster.

And im sorry im not familiar with doing this stuff. Im sure i know how to do things you guys would be clueless at. I was asking one question. How to get the battery out. I dont really think it was that stupid of a question. I dont work on cars and never have so figuring out how to get stuff out and what not properly is tricky. You guys are talking **** for no reason. Im not trying to pick a fight or anything but its pretty clear most of this board is filled with elitists who think their car knowledge gives them some kind of superiority. I managed to get it out and replace thanks to a helpful poster elsewhere.

I am sorry if you took this harshly but this is the web and you will always get unwanted comments. I guess I come from a culture that is built around do it yourself things (sister changes her own oil) and even my mom know how to change a battery.... no offense. But like you said we are jacks of different trades in different words of course.
 
Wow, there really is something sacrosanct about having practical skills.

There are plenty of people on here that know NOTHING about cars and ask simple questions. They get good answers as long as the people answering can tell they have a little bit of common sense and AMBITION! Ambition makes the world of difference. I was the first to answer you and I told you to go outside and take another look.

You should have went out side looked around the battery to figure out why its not coming out and seen there was a clamp holding it down, then you should have been like "I don't have the right tools I wonder if my crescent wrench will work" and tried it. It would have taken you 5 minutes to determine if it was going to work or not but instead you came on here and *****ed about how people were answering your question that could have been solved with a little bit of ambition. If you would have just done what I stated above you would have gained knowledge and gotten farther in less time because it seems from what you have posted that you are extremely busy and don't have time to do anything but post on here.

Again we are not here to hold your hand.

Edit: I was proof reading what I posted and I wanted to add, if you would have went out side and did what I said and stated "I went outside and seen there is a clamp with a bolt holding the battery down but all I have is a crescent wrench and I couldn't get it off with that" this thread would have went into a totally different direction and who knows maybe someone on here knows a little trick they could have told you.
