• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Removing alternator housing

Is that metal shavings I see inside of the blower housing and at the base of the LIM?

Back when I hand built amplifiers, I used one of those soldering irons that looked like the pencil type on steriods, and for the connection to the 1/0 wire, a standard propane torch like used for plumbing jobs.

btw I was searching some of the forums I belong to, for the step by step on tearing apart the alternator that I've seen. For those that mess up theirs, have a bad one that needs replacing etc. A place called Afterthoughts does chromed 160 amp alternators or powdercoating if that is what you chose. Ill go back and see if I can find the thread, since it had a picture of the chromed one on a wbody.

I never signed up on the board and you cant see past the first page there as a guest.

eh... link isnt gonna work for anybody that's not a 3800 pro member... --- i tried to sign up once, but i dont think it's necessary to have to give my full name to some web form if i choose not to.

Ok here it is:rolleyes: I forgot about the restrictions.:o

arent the 9c1 impala alternators 140 amps?

may not help in the disassembly area, but would be a less expensive option for more oomph

125 amp in the 9c1 iirc, but yes it help those looking to upgrade anyway. Apparently for a chrome version you have to call them first.

hrmm.. i was thinking 140 in the 9c1... perhaps im wrong -- if turbocharged406sbc chimes in, he should know--- i still cant believe that he cut up a perfectly good VERY low mileage L26 out of an 04 9c1 -- cut it in to thin slabs

lol tho he did manage to take just about EVERY single useable piece from that 9c1.

I just checked the Impala site and 9c1 is 125 and the stock 3.8 got the 102. I heard the SS got the 125, but I cant confirm that...yet.

ah well... hmmm perhaps i was thinkin about the po-po prepped tahoes, those have 140's

Is there any place to get the 9C1 alternator for a good price?

125 amp alternator Bosch

This price is almost as much as the 160 amp from Afterthoughtsauto though. I had better luck googling 2004 Impala SS alternator since there were police Impalas in the mid 90's.

One of the Impala guys bought the Bosch alternator and loves it, although I believe he purchased a higher amp one. His comments were comparing the Delco to the Bosch.
