Remote Won't Program!

I bought a remote for my GP online a while ago and the instructions that came with it didn't work so I called my local GM dealer and made sure I had the right remote... I did. And so I took it into them to look at it and they said that there was something wrong and it wouldn't program and it would be another $116 to fix it and I said screw it. I forget what they told me was wrong. Any ideas what this problem could be?

My first one broke and on the inside the clip that held the battery in was broken so it wasn't attached to the rest of the insides. That could be a problem if you want to open it up.
