Remote start on GP

I am planning on getting remote start in my 01 GTP since the winter is coming and remote start is a great convenience.

Anyway I remember a while back when I had my Camaro I called a few places and they quoted me around 200 for a remote start setup.

What do you guys suggest I do? I was a little worried that I would go through them and I would get some cheapo setup (cheap remote). Maby I should purchase the kit and have someone install it for me?

Are there any setups you recommend? Maby a east DIY setup?

Go to a well known place for good installs.

Prices can be from 200+ depending on features like if you want alarm and keyless entry with it. How far you want to be able to start car. If you want 2way communication from car to remote

Id stick with viper, Python, compustar i think is another good brand.

Python – Security with Remote Start - Python 990 is what i have. What cant it do LOL.

Also keep in mind. Even the best alarm is only as good as the install. Have a bad installer installing top of line alarm it can perform like a ****

Thanks for the info. I do NOT want an alarm. When I bought that trans am it had a CRAZY alarm in it. Even after i pulled out the brain the car would still go off. I had no idea how to work it...

I would just like a simple remote start.

How hard are they to install?

theres lot of wiring and splicing involved...i got one for chirstmas last year and ive yet to install it.

get the bulldog remote start wring adapter thing, that makes it a little easier.

Im thinking im going to have it installed profesionally.

I called this place and they said 200 even. All the brand names are weird though. There called "Auto Start" and stuff like that...

They say there good stuff... (though i dont expect them to say its bad)

I would not go cheap brands. Quality unknown and what happens if it fails will they be around to help?

viper, python (DEI) will they will cover it with a lifetime warranty

They are.

Viper and Python are the same alarm system. Only difference is the icon on the brain and the casing of the remote. Screen on remote is the same and all electronics are the same.

Also you will need a key bypass. Think it is a 555u and a spare key for it to bypass passkey

So I need to have a spare key that would be used for ignition, and it will have to be installed in the brain?

I have a spare key, but I would like to keep it for emergencies. If this is the case, how would i get another spare?

Is it possible to get a copy fabricated at a lock smith or maby even wal mart?

EDIT*

After re reading what you posted, it doesnt sound like a need a new key. It sounds like I need extra hardware? Im thinking of at least taking a look at the shop that would install the setup for $200. I know its the best of stuff, but maby it will do the trick... Hopefully he would have everything I need

just go to a hardware store and pay like $2 for a key copy. They basically insert that key into a fake ignition source that is wired in under your dash to enable your car to start. It is simply to bypass your factory security measures.

You dont want to bypass your security system. By doing so you are taking one of the best safety measures for car theft ever out of the equation. Without the pk3 system you can steal the car like it was the 1970's. The pk3 system has chip inside that has to match the one in car. If it is not present the car will not start.

Right, I'm not saying you're disabling the security system, you must simply "bypass" security in order for the car to start. With out this when the car starts it will immediately die and the alarm will prolly go off as I'm sure you know. Just wanted to clarify :th_thumbsup-wink:

My 98 GTP has a Python alarm, with remote start. It was about 500$, installed. 200$, for just a remote start, sounds about average.

Yes cry WOLF is right. I misunderstood what he meant. you need 556uw bypass. This wil "bypass" the system for remote start, open the fuel rails and then return he car to regular security...you will also need to put a loop on the ignition or the SERVICE THEFT SYSTEM light will come on. The way you reset the that light is turn the key to the on position 7 times and on the eighth start the engine.

so really unless you want a super nice alarm your better off just using a remote start right? and is there a way to only have one remote but still be able control both? im really just talking about still starting it plus retaining the light flash and horn feature

thanks guys in advance

I use to have a remote start and what the are saying about the pk3 is correct but something happened with mine where the theft deterent module kept burning out and when that happened the fuel pump would shut down. The car would run for a few seconds and die, that is part of the security system. So find a good intall shop and you should be alright.
