In your opinion is it best to buy an aftermarket regulator and motor or a used oem one at salvage yard?

I'm assuming that you're talking about the power window motor and regulator assembly.
I've replaced all four of my power window motor/regulator assemblies over the years. Twice for the driver side door.
The generic ones on eBay are about $35-$50 and they work pretty well. I recently figured out that I could keep them sliding smoothly by lubricating the fabric lined power window tracks with silicone spray or dry graphite powder.
