Regal vs. Grand Prix springs

LOL mmkay, Matt found some helpful info in deciphering the differences. Don't know why I didn't notice before that Rockauto shows some specs on at least the Raybestos replacements.

Regal/MC - Inside Diameter=5.43" Wire Diameter=.531" Free Height=15.56" Load height=10"

GP sedan - Inside Diameter=5.43" Wire Diameter=.541" Free Height=13.78" Load height=9"

GP coupe - Inside Diameter=5.43" Wire Diameter=.541" Free Height=13.31" Load height=9"

I'm presuming the difference in coupe vs. sedan GP spring heights is due to the 4-doors weighing more, but it's only a 1/2", so not a big deal. So it appears that even the Regal springs sit almost 2" higher than the GP springs, and the Intrigue springs (no stats for those) are the same as the '04 & up GP springs, which I'd think would be just as high, if not higher, as I recall reading that switching to springs designed for the '97 - '03 GPs leads to a drop in ride height on Gen 7 GPs. I'll have to think this over now. I don't want to deal with the issues of lowering a car, but I certainly don't want it jacked up another inch or two, either.

free height isn't what it sits at.

Thats what its at before you install in onto the strut.

load height i'm not 100% on the definition of.

i'd guess its when installed and vehicle weight applied.

But i'm not 100% on that.

So the ride height on the Intrigue springs will be the same as the GP? The reason I didn't look into those too much is because I thought I read that they sit a bit higher than the factory GP springs. And if both the Regal and Intrigue springs are variable rate, what made you go with the Intrigues? Thanks for the input so far, BTW.

When I installed the Intrigue springs, I was going from old weak GP springs to brand new GM Intrigue spring. I noticed the ass was raised when I was done. But I had 2 12" subs and a box in the trunk so I just assume it was that. I never noticed that my car sat any higher than other GPs.
