regal gs transmission shudders from stop

recently i thought my trans was slipping in first and ready to go out, around same time i did a trans fluid change, well now that i found the cause of the original noise i thought was my trans slipping and i've done a filter/fluid change it kinda shudders when taking off from lights about every other one. Fine when shifting and downshifting. Anyone had this?

Can you write that again, maybe differently. It was tough to distinguish yoru sentenaces and that caused me to get confused by it.

You fixed some original noise, What noise?
Your trans shudders off the line at almost every light, is this under big power or just trying to leave normally?

I have this problem in my olds 88... also has some quick upshifts at times... otherwise the trans works fine.

Shuddering for me comes under average throttle, and only lasts for a second. Also this will only happen after it has been ran for a long period of time.

sorry bill, i'm using my phone. Basically what horizon said. When taking off, it will shudder for a second like its not right then catches and goes. All under part throttle, if i lay into it i don't think it happens.

I can think of a couple things I've heard about.
The input piston inner edge wears
The short lip seal can allow some issues, usually from what Dave has mentioned that's a harsh engagement issue though.

I'm not an expert though.

hmmm. i dunno. i used to think my trans was going out until i found my motor mount busted and exhaust hanging down about 4in from the ground. once i cured that, the sound i thought was my trans slipping went away but when i changed the trans fluid and filter this shudder started to happen. i really hate automatics and if this wasn't the family car on weekends i would do the 5 speed swap.

Just thought I would bring this back up. I changed my fluid originally to Dex6, because every parts store said thats what was specified cause they no longer carried Dex3. Now that I know they do and is just listed differently, I went to that product. Transmission slips a lot less but I think the dex6 took its toll on my high mileage trans. Every so often i get a little "jutter" still.

NEIN!!! I love that car, a lot of love and work is into keeping it looking decent and driving decent. I am selling my daily Stock Gtp.

I'm on the bottle too. I've had a couple transmissions do the stutter and it's always helped out.

Selling the GTP to keep the Regal. Oh yeah, that's the way to do it.

Yeah I think I may do that. It probably has cycled enough to need a touch extra fluid by now anyways. If not I'll just crack it open to get enough out to top off with some Lucas.

My Regal is going to hit 190k soon. GTP needs a/c fixed and some other little stupid stuff like a new power seat motor and about due for LIM gasket. I rather sell the GTP and get a little 4cyl for daily and use the extra Mpg to help pay off debts and keep Regal decently kept up so i can try to actually afford rebuilding my 69 Tempest. Pooor ol Tempest....

If i think what your talking about we have a 2004 Regal GS that hesitated then caught. We pulled the pan and we had valve body material in pan, alot of clutch material. We ended up replaceing trans with a new one. Thank god for extended warranties!!!

Likely it's more pcs than anything else.

I'd bet you usually notice it if you back out and drop it into D then get on the throttle before it's fully caught.

I had nothing like that, just dirty pan from around 40k without a change. I should had listen to people like my father who said never change em or flush em if they haven't been changed in a long time. Just felt i should since I beat on it when I do drive it and it seen alot of strip time in the first 2yrs of me owning it.

Bill your definately right on the seats. Hate this GTP's!
