I just the Reduced Engine Power warning while driving on normal roads yesterday and now its at the mechanics. How serious is that is it does it all time and then shuts off after 5 minutes of driving whether im stationary or not?

when the maf went bad on my gmc 03 pick up the engine went into reduced power, it only idled tho, just so you could still stop and steer.

did the cel come on?

Yeah the CEL is on constantly and I JUST had the trans fluid replaced by a mechanic. Ive been running 93 octane for months now.

Yeah but the CEL doesnt just come on for no reason, there is a cause and I want to know if the cause is major or minor

Next time don't be so ignorant, and just pretend it's not on. If you would have had the codes scanned you could have saved yourself some money.

Hard to pretend its not on when my car wont go faster than 25mph and then shuts off on a major road leaving me with no power steering or brakes. And what the hell do you think its doing at the mechanics now? Try, getting the code checked? God people like you piss me off for thinking Im stupid when my car completely shuts down. All I asked for was help on what could cause the transaxle issue warning (be it a lose connection or my trans is about to turn into a bomb.)

Without a code, there is usually too much to consider to try and guess at it. Which is why we asked.

As for the brakes and steering. You still have both when the car stalls, you don't have any power assist though. Flex a little muscle and you can still steer and stop. Usually in a stall situation the adrenaline will give you the abilty to do both.

Hope it's an easy repair.

Haha thats exactly what I did when it died, turned into the Hulk. And I hope so too. Day 3 at the shop and hopefully Ill find out what happens today

My dad had a 2004 silverdao and had the same problem reduced engine power and would kinda shake and shut off by itself while on the freeway or streets, after some time searching on forums and google i found out that some chevy's had a problem with the electronic throttle body or just malfunction, got one used off ebay for 30 bucks installed it the next day and never had the problem again we sold the truck but it was running fine for the couple of months we had it before we sold it almost 200k on it and never came back on. I believe it would be the same problem with youre's but you just never know, hope this helps.
