Recall.

Hi guys, basically I had to travel over to the next town for recall work on my 98 GTP(the engine fire recall). I had set up an appointment and all, but when I got there they claimed that they would have to order parts, that it would take about four days for them to arrive and such. I can't sit about with no car(my other is being worked on also) for however long it would take them, so they offered to give me a call back when the parts arrived.

Later that day, the people in charge of the recall gave me a call to see if the work had been done. Apparently the dealership told them they had completed the work. After I explained that they had not, I was then told that I would be called back after they sorted this out and guess what, no call.

This sounds like some sort of run around, and I am not pleased with this.

Suggestions?

funny i went in and gave me a couple recalls, such as engine fire being a gasket and clips, along with power steering failure or something and on my first time in they knocked it out. they had to order the steering parts and that was done in about 4 hours. your getting boned man.

Instead of posting on the internet, call the dealership and recall person. Stand up, ask questions and get it resolved instead of sitting home and wondering if it's a conspiracy theory. More than likely someone pressed the wrong button on a Monday.

4 days for a recall? ( its a valve cover gasket) call GM direct and complain, especially since someone called to see how you like the job thats not done yet!

That sucks I called gm and we have a few trusted dealers so I went got he highest rating one and they were nice no problems, hell they we're 30 mins longer than expected and gave me 20% off next anything and free oil change

Want to hear something else interesting. The fire recalls never applied to anything but the W body cars with 3.8. Which to me says, it was something that was different only on the W body. Gasket was always the same. Leak on all of them. W or not. Plastic plug wire holder, that is above the gasket, same on all of them.

What was different you ask, the metal front exhaust manifold shield. Other body styles had more room in the engine bay and they didn't have it. Thinking logically, oil seeps on the manifolds and builds up under the shield. This build up up flammable oil, does just that after there is enough and enough heat. Then bye bye GP

On my 97 GT I took it in to the dealer for the steering recall, well they could not get the parts and threw in a new steering rack. F N score for me. Other than that I try to do repairs my self within my limits. As for you OP go to the dealer and ask to talk to the "GM" (general manager). Then light a fire under his a**. That should get things done. I'm a nice guy till someone test me, it is at that time they meet the other me aka SGT Porter. Not to many civilians like to get reamed like a PVT. just sayin...

The GM rep ended up calling them and apparently set things proper. I haven't been able to check with the dealer as I've been sick(I probably would have raised the issue more when I was first told four days if it wasn't for that). I decided that I am going to give them till next Wednesday, I have some other stuff going on and I think I'll give them a break. If they tell me something ridiculous again I won't be so nice.

I'll update how that goes or if anything happens before then.

Thanks for the comments guys, I haven't dealt much with dealers or recalls, so I really don't know what sort of behaviour to expect or what is right/fair.
