seine of the crime.

you take a razor and scrape off the old glue.

add some scratches to the button for the glue to bite on to.

my button just pulls out, i used a screw driver to pry it out. its 1/2 free up there ^^^^

scrape the windshield clean of old glue with a razor.

then i use only crazy glue, it works, and its a lot cheaper then the stuff thats supposed to be made for the job. lay a nice thin layer of glue over the button. i like to let it sit in open air for like 15 to 30 seconds, helps it thicken a bit so it dont drip or run when put on the windshield.

then find the center again and put it in place, hold it firmly to the glass for a good minute.

at this point, leave the car in the sun and the mirror off for 24 hours so the glue can cure. if installed now, it will fall off again fast. like in hours.

ill post another pic of the mirror on after the glue dries fully tomorrow.

i wish i had another to put on, the auto dimmer leaked out way before i got it, so its been opened up and cleaned and put back together. already. it does weigh a lot lol

It sucks that so few Gentex mirrors got auto dim with map lights, especially since they have exactly the same wiring so it would be plug and play. Still waiting to see one of those fail.

I bought autodimming, compass with homelink. Cause there is one thing about Regals that is a given to fail.. that Donnelly.

Does that guy who used to sell auto dimming ones here still do that. My buddy has an auto dimming mirror in his car and I want one!

Hey I have an auto dimming mirror I'd sell, out of an 02 GTP. Don't know whose last name that type goes by but I ain't gonna use it and it still works. PM if desperate.

Did a lot of these rearview mirror re-attachments in my day too... have couple tips to add, SD. The 2K Permatex mirror glue works good. Allowing the most cure time possible before hanging the mirror, and pre-cleaning the glass with a clean razor blade then alcohol or a solvent based paint prep liqiuid are a couple extra things you can do do ensure permanent adhesion. I also like to mark the old tab position on the outside of the glass before cleaning the old residue away on the inside. If there was a black dot on the windshield where the tab goes (like the black "frit band" that covers the urethane bead), they might never fall off!

good tips. i had a mark on my tint brow i used as my reference point for center.

ive done the rubbing alcohol before too. this time i just scraped off the glue, then washed it with windex. glued the tab up.

ive had the same fail rate with the real glue and crazy glue.

seems once it falls off, you'll be re hanging it every few years no matter what glue is used.

and the black area some cars have where the button is glued to, ive yet to see one of them come off with out taking the glass with it lol

Yeah UV rays murder adhesives, but if you keep it "in the shade" that sure helps.
Tell us the truth, man... you hang a couple CDs and some mardi gras beads and a shrunken head or two offa that thing, and thats why it fell off right? Ha!

nahh, i hang nothing. ( you get pulled over for that crap here) its got to weigh a pound or so all by its self. every time this one has come off, i found it hanging by its wires.

Cool, if there ain't a law there ought to be. I didn't figure you was running around with hangy stuff but I figured it was a good opening for a shot at them that do.

you fail for inspection here if you got crap on the rear view lol or any sticker other than a inspection sticker.

the last time i took my truck the guy came out and told me i had to take the NJ troop shield sticker and the other pba sticker. or id fail.

then i took my moms car last year and failed, im like what for? he points at this little 1/2 x 1 inch sticker in the top pass side of the wind shield, im like you couldn't tell me that at the beginning? so he then says, go ahead spin the wheels and leave... im like why would i do that? i pulled out did a U turn in the exit, took the sticker off, then called the asshole back to give me a good sticker.

also gave him a few choice words.

That high adhesive failure rate is why I suggest people go to an auto glass shop to have it reinstalled. I don't know what they use, but I personally haven't heard of someone having an issue with the mirror falling off of a replaced windshield. And many shops will do it for free as a courtesy. But even if they charge, it won't be much more than what a package of that failure prone car parts store adhesive will cost you.

You mean me? ;) http://www.thechicagogarage.com/for...irrors-more-mirrors-oh-i-got-mirrors-too.html

Some info on the various mirrors here, too. http://www.grandprixforums.net/thre...-to-know-about-auto-dimming-rear-view-mirrors

this happen to my car from the subs, so I did the repair with the crappy tire crap, and the thing fell off right away. took it to auto glass place, they installed the button for free after having to chisel off the crappy tire crap along with part of the windshield! I let it sit for 2 days just to be sure... put it on. was fine driving for a minute. as soon as i turned my system on it fell and hung again! my new permanent fix is a 12" LCD front and rear view camera with gps tracking(shut down if stolen) and navigation($5/month), slot for SD cards and usb connector for laptop.
