Rear speakers

I recently installed a pioneer head unit and my rear speakers now dont work. I tried wiring up a set that i had laying around and they work fine. I talked to a friend about it and he said that this happened to other people that owned grand prix's. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem or new of a solution to it?

what speed said < itssimple as hell to wire speakers and easier to troubleshoot em ur smarter then ur system haha

the speakers short out, the wires in the speakers themselves go bad.. its a problem with the Pontiac 6x9s its not your wiring, its the speakers...

I spent about two weeks checking wireing and i rewired it twice and it didnt change any thing so what 99gpse said sounds like that might be the problem. Im going to take the speakers out and try them on my brothers grand prix and see if they work. Ill let you all no how it turns out thanks for all your help.

Ya thats what i was planning on doing but I was just wondering if anyone knew why they didn't work.

Any one got any suggestions on a good brand of speakers nothing to pricey or fancy just something to replace the stock ones.

hit up a junk yard and get some from a first gen Dodge Intrepid... they fit right in, and they work great!! grab the plugs while you are at it.. they wrork just as good, if not better than the stockers in the GP... but check to make sure they are not torn or anything...

Infinity reference series are ok kappa series are better, alpines suck unless its the type R's, only get pioneer if its their premier line everything else pioneer is garbage (don't mean to offend anyone), some polk series are good...there are plenty more badas* speakers like Memphis and a few other that come to mind, but anything in that range your spending alot of $$$. If you go to buy some at a store a good way to tell speaker quality is to push lightly with your index finger on the woofer cone and see how much the woofer ripples and flexes, if it flexes in all together evenly without rippling, then yeah its a good speaker, if it ripples and un-even flex than its crap. Another way is to look at the frequency range or (HZ) the wider the frequency range the better and cleaner your music will sound.

^^ just to comment, Sony Explode, even though alot of people say crap, i have them in the front of the GP, and they are great, crisp clear sound, deep and full, and not distorted, even at high volume... and these speakers are used! they where in my 93 Integra when i got it back in Feb. '08, and then in my 95 Saturn when i got it, now in the GP... the are about three years old, if not more, and they have had some abuse i must say.. and they still sound new!

i believe you can get a pair of 6x9 Explodes at Wal-Mart for around $40...

No offense, but there's a reason why xplods are cheap. I run kicker's on my factory bose amp and it works great. In fact I've run kickers in the past 3 cars I've owned. They sound great without being retarded expensive. Check em out.

^^ see, told you.. but my experience, they are good speakers... ive also had a couple explode HU, and i liked them... cant say much for the 6x9s though..

No offense but really sony car audio? comon they should just stick to what they do best and thats television sets.

the only sony car audio i would buy is an amp an thats the only piece of sony car audio i have an only reason i run it instead of something better is cause i got a great deal and its a class D. As far as the rest of their equipment i def agree with majority! Imo its crap! Anyone that asks me what they should get? First thing i tell them is NOT sony! I say alpine, kicker, infinity, or something similar in quality.

I was thining about goin with these Pioneer - 6" x 9" 2-Way Coaxial Speakers w/ KEVLAR® and Basalt Cones.
I also agree sony should stick TV's also, i never heard anything good about here car audio line.

Ive seen the Sony Explode Truck (172db or so) but still think that they make crappy stuff based off of my experience.

The 6x9's are run off an amplifier under the passengers side dash while the small 3" speakers are connected directly to the head unit. Should the amplifier die, the 6x9's will not work. They are used to pump out only bass BTW.

I got a pair of 3" and 6x9s explode in mine. They got the job done on the stock head unit. But when i upgraded and installed an new alpine head unit and a sub, the 6x9 got thrashed. But the 3" have been pumping out crisp sound for a good while now. Do what you gotta do based based on financial situation. Scan the internet for a week or so. I got two hard hitting 12" subs and wired them into my home theater unit. I think it was ~$38 shipped. Just avoid the sony 6X9's though.
