Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe - Car tattoo finished! Pics and video.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

A picture before the removal. There is a line there.. I can see it running from there towards the back of the motor. Wishing I took more pics now lol.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

had an issue with the car stalling almost immediately after startup. Would run rough if you feathered the gas. Tried the pump resistor bypass, didn't work. Unplugged the MAF, works line a charm now. But now I believe the alternator is bad because the car will idle low and slowly die out with the battery light on.

Drove the car around the block. 1st gear seemed to take off slow. Which it normalized quick.. it drives and shifts. Pulls pretty hard to 40. Barely got it home it seemed to losing all power.
Get home and the lower trans line was popped out of the radiator. Reconnected line, and refilled tranny.

Updated list of repairs needed right now.
U bend delete. Right now downpipe is off.
Alternator.
Evap purge solenoid.
Oil dipstick.
MAF sensor
Control arm bushings.

That's it.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

I plan on doing another one with goodies.

And giving an engine a shot. Thinking about an xp cam

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

Well I spend a long day trying different stuff to keep the car charged. I think it's the alternator still, but I had it tested at 2 different places and both times tested as good. Next week I'll probably have a new alt in there. Stalls immediately if + terminal is loosened or disconnected. If it's jumped it will slowly die out from lack of electrical power.

Onto the photobombing.

The only rust on the car.. The rockers.. Both sides look about the same. Rear strut towers are spotless.

Interior. Gotta love the leather seats.

Both sides looks great. No dents or dings.

The only rim that has curb rash. Doesnt look bad. Might dip or paint it black, but not sure.

Spoiler is peeling clearcoat.

I hacked the exhaust and cut a wedge out of the bend on the downpipe while trying to remove the engine months ago.. Dont really want to buy another one for $130, so I opted to weld it back together.. Doesnt look pretty, but since I'm not going to be looking at it all the time it doesnt have to be. It's watertight though.

My accord parked next to it's replacement. She's not jealous....

All the bends in the exhaust are mandrel bends.. Except this one, which seems to have been crushed.. I'll be replacing that bend at some point.

Enjoy!

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

Little bit of motivation and some 0000 steel wool, polish and wax will have this thing shiny.

Indeed. It would be shiny already if it was home and legal.. But all in good time. Once I get the charging sorted out I can really test the tranny, See how it feels on the highway. It's coming along nice though.. She'll be finished soon.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

Couple questions...why only the initial fill of 4 quarts on the trans? I've always done 7-8 start it for just enough for it to start and shut it down, add 5-6 more quarts and then drive till warm and then top off to proper level.

On the charging part....there is the post on the back of the alternator but there is also a connector too. I've hooked everything up before and forgot the connector and had similar issues to what you're describing. Other than that, check all your grounds.

I was told 1 qt in the converter, 4 in the tranny and start for 15 second and keep adding 4-5 quarts @ 15 seconds until topped off. I went off of F-Bodies inc video.

That connector in back of the alternator is connected. Grounds I cant see to find all of them, so I've got the battery doing a slow charge at Advance auto, and on friday I'll do the big 3 mod so I know the grounds are good. The other thing I thought it was is the starter wires. Still not 100% sure how they're supposed to go, right now it has the small purple wire on the tiny terminal, the giant red wire and the 2 small wires on the upper terminal, and the medium red wire/orange to the bottom terminal.. If you know, let me know.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe

Yep! Finally found the old voltometer. While running the charge is 12.1v instead of the 14 it's supposed to be. Also in progress is the u-bend.. Thought about changing out the bend for a straight pipe, but looking at the catback, I dont see a resonator. It's Downpipe > Cat > U-Bend > pipes to mufflers. So I'm going to add in a 2.5" glasspack (Thrush turbo glasspack) to help with rasp and noise because my wife has a sensitivity to loud noises. Exhaust to be fixed Friday-sunday before work, and alternator on Tuesday.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe - Back up and running. Lots of pics page 5

Looks like you'll need new rear tires aswell and an alignment with all that inner edge wear.

Otherwise it a good work in progress.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe - Back up and running. Lots of pics page 5

Installed a thrush glasspack in place of the u-bend. On the charging issue, I had the alternator wire going to the wrong post on the starter so it wasn't connecting to the battery. That's sorted out as well. Now all I need is a maf screen since mine got pretty banged up during the project. All thats left to do is give it a long drive.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe - Back up and running. Lots of pics page 5

Drove it the 30 miles from the old neighbors house to mine. Only hiccup is hesitation off the line, and what seems to be engine torque loss under 2000 rpm. which I believe is due to the MAF sensor being unplugged to keep it running.

Gave it a quick wash and I think it looks pretty decent. I think I'll black out the grey areas on the front and back. Next week I'll be fixing the crushed bend on the catback and deleting the cat.

The wifes been drawing on my car! Dont worry it's with permission.

Some may not like it, others will. I sure do. Very unique and she loves doing it. Enjoy the teaser!

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe - Back up and running. Lots of pics page 5

That looks pretty cool, she's got some skills. If it were on the trunk I'd call it a tramp stamp though, lol.

Re: Jevik's 98 GTP coupe - Back up and running. Lots of pics page 5

Very unique and she has some talent. Is she finished or will there be more?
