The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.
My buddy at work has a 08 Dmax with the edge tuner and exhaust...pretty quick for a fullsize truck but after riding in my car decided he didn't want to race
Disagree. The tuner can control several variables on the dyno and can safely make multiple adjustments all while not having to deal with the possibilities of the po po. The sheet isn't what the point of a dyno tune is. Hell when they tuned my cousin's turbo Civic the went down from what the peak hp was because the lower hp tune was a better cleaner tune.
$250 isn't too good to be true. It's about average. My buddy charges $225 to tune your car on the dyno and his tuner is good. He is always busy because people want their car tuned by him. If his tunes sucked word would get around quick, especially around here.
Well seeing as how I've been present for Dyno tunes I know the lack of depth they have. They tune for MAX power only. Not drivability. There are several things they don't do on a Dyno tune that gets done on a street tune.
Sorry but you are wrong. Not every dyno tune is about max power.
Besides max power doesn't mean anything if it isn't usable. Any capable and honest tuner will tell that to the car owner. When my cousin's Civic was tuned they hit a certain power level and the tuner told him the tune still wasn't right. When he got the tune better the horsepower level dropped, but torque came up and it was much more drivable.... yes drivable.
Did they adjust cruise timing? Did they adjust the TC lockup and unlock? Did they adjust lean cruise burn? Ill be willing to bet they didnt. When I said max power I didnt absolutely mean max HP. More TQ is more power also. When ZZP throws you on a dyno you get 3 pulls and they tune the WOT stuff only. They never make any adjustments to anything else. THUS they ARE tuning for max power.
Its a 5 speed, no TC lock up. Yes he tuned lean burns and all that. The car still get 30+ mpg even with the turbo and other mods. Before the tune he was getting low/mid 20's.
I didn't say no one tunes for max power, I said not everyone tunes for max power. When you are paying a tuner to tune your car on a dyno they are going to tune for what you want, at least a good, honest tuner will.
I have an 06 Dmax LBZ with the 6 speed Allison. I don't have a tuner. I have an intake, high flow manifolds and up-pipes, no cat, and that's basically it. They are pretty quick especially for how heavy they are. I have surprised many cars on the street who thought they were going to cut me off for an entrance ramp. In a true race, they are best from a dig and the key is spooling the turbo before launching without overdoing it and smoking the tires. If 4WD a boosted launch is the way to go. Clearly once you get to higher speeds the performance drops off. A GTP is no slouch and the results of your race aren't surprising.
I am ashamed to admit I did that once with a Buick LeSabre on the trailer. It was a lot closer than the guy in his Lexus expected. I thought it was pretty funny.
