Radio sounds wierd

ok I have a question about the stereo, I have a 2002 gp, and somtimes the stereo throws the sound around the car. Almost like there is one speaker in the room and you spining in circles ( or something like that).
Has anyone else had this trouble or do I just need a new stereo.
