Radio gone crazy!!!

So I am driving along hands on the bottom of the wheel when the music in the car goes crazy, I guess my ghost passenger reached over and turned it to full blast... with the baby in the car, not good. So I tried turning it down by the controls on the wheel no luck, reached for the volume knob on the deck no luck. So in goes the button to shut it off.
I waited till I got the baby out of the car, and messed with the stereo again. Pushed the on button and its still full blast. Tried turning knob slow to turn it down, no good. Used the controls on the steering wheel no good so I had to mess with the buttons on the wheel and finally it started to turn down, anyone know what causes this?

sounds like your steering wheel buttons are shot... get some new ones and replace them.

Can they be disabled? How hard are they to swap out?

they can be disabled. just pull one out of the steering wheel, unplug the little harness, and slide it back in.
replacement is a bit tougher because the wires are so short. it's the same process but replacing the part and plugging it back in. either way it only takes a couple minutes

i think theres a fuse for them check and pull it to see if that helps

or pull the deck out also there is a harness in the back of the deck has like 4 or 6 wires in it and that rids you of steering wheel control on all of them . put a aftermarket deck in there , thats what i did
