Radiator upgrade for 97-03 GP's

Just so no one else runs into this ,
The NAPA stock radiator has 1" cores now anyways.
So you order a stock 2003 regal or grand prix supercharged. It comes 1" core. No silly bottom hoses no silly fan clips not lining up. AND it comes with a set of fittings for your cooler lines.

Sooo..anyone used that 1 3/8's core with headers? I'm in need of a radiator and would like to upgrade to this but i'm not sure if it will clear with headers.

I believe the 1 3/8's core will fit. It's 1/2" difference.

However I have another question. Why can't we use the regular Monte lower hose? Everything looks to be in the same spot.

4THGEN- I don't know for sure if the Monte lower hose will clear or not. Never tried it. I was going off a recoomendation from another person that had done it and was told to use that particular lower hose so it would clear the belt and pulleys. If the Monte hose routes away from the belt as well then good to know.

As far as headers and this rad. I don't see why not. It may be close but not interfering. If I can ever save up some extra $$ I'd like to get a set of headers on my GT, even though it's not S/C'd I don't see why it wouldn't hurt to help the flow.

On the clearance thing a bunch of 95-9 montes run an lq1 radiator with 3.8s and headers. And 95-99 montes have a LOT tighter engine bay. Just my $0.02 :)

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have a buddy with an 04 looking to do this. He already has slim fans, so I only need to worry about adapting the cooler lines, right?

Hello all. Does anyone know if this will work on a GP with a 3100, or what differences there will be? I already blew the head gasket once because of the weak cooling system on this car and I don't want it to happen again.

The stock cooling system is more then sufficient for a stock 3100. If you did blow a head-gasket from overheating and not from it being a typical 3100 failure then it is because something is wrong with your cooling system. To answer your question yes it will most likely work. Like others have said though your much better off just getting a 1" stock replacement radiator. No trans cooler issues or fitment issues.

^ That is what I was leaning towards since the 1 inch is a direct fit. Everything is working fine now I just want some extra security in case it ever runs a little low before I catch it.

Thanks for the reply.

Did the 1 3/8" swap on my monte...few washers and fans were fine. Recently did the swap on a 98gtp.....took about an inch off lower hose...fit fine. Mebbe if trimming a hose or using washers is too hard you shouldnt b messing with ur car in the first place.....
