rack and pinion question

i got my used rack today, the pass side boot is torn, and there fluid inside the boot, enough to leak out, it this normal? or should i send it back?

its got a 6 month warranty, but i don't want to do the job twice.

i would send it back or just put a new boot on it...but if i could get them to do it..i would send it to them and tell them to fix it..that way you have to worry about it and it wont cost you anymore money but a new boot is only like 10 bucks i think.. witch everyone would be cheaper...shipping or new parts

replacing the boots not a problem, the fact that its got fluid leaking out of the boot concerns me, i need to know it thats normal?

i dont want to put one in thats leaking already.

the one thats in my car is dead but dont leak, and boot is trashed on mine.

know you now that i think about it....there shouldn't be any fliuid in the boots in the first place ..
are these the boots your talking about

yes sir.

its the side opposite the steering knuckle, right side boot in your pic, 2 inch cut, on the bottom, it left a puddle in the back of the guys truck, about 4 inches round, and leaked on the floor some more here after i took it.

i thought it was leaking from the cut lines that were still on it but after i looked it over inside the boot is soaked.

ok..those boots shouldnt have any fliuid in them..there just a dust cover for the end seal on the housing..have you pulled them back to look at the seals?..

not yet i was disgusted when i saw the rip and it was wet inside so i left it alone for now, didn't want to put anything into something a may send back.

new rack version 2.0 has been delivered. Saturday is the install day, lets hope this one is dry when i see it. ( it was dropped off at my friends house) trying to get myself motivated for this nightmare of a job. its going to be a solo job too, no help.

quick question, where is the best points to put the jack stands for this job? im thinking lca's.

i need the car to be as high up as possible, i was thinking of backing it up onto ramps, and then putting the jack stands under the front end, so i can get as much room as possible underneath the car. good or bad idea?

and I've only got one jack,(3 ton) and 2 stands, is ok to lift the whole front of the car by the cradle in the front of the car?

one rack and pinion swap complete, i still can believe it came out that little hole in the wheel well.took 4 hours from in the garage to out of the garage, lost a half hour waiting for a 18 mm wrench be dropped off, but get this, a 3/4 wrench and a dime taped to the inside of the 3/4 is as close to 18 mm your gonna find! cracked both lines with that set up lol, another 20 minutes for clean up time, all and all not the worst job i'v had to tackle.

and my sway bar had one broken end, and the other side the link was snapped, so the whole bar came out and was left out for now, the driver side mounting bolt closest to the firewall, what a turd that one was, the other 3 bolt were easy to remove, and the old bar just slid out, nicey, nice

new rack was out of a 2001 regal, and turns like butter, and is leak free, time to head in to inspection now.

and all week we were at 95 to 100 deg's here, and today was like 70 when i left the house and 64 when i got home, so i got the best day to do it.
