• The site migration is complete! Hopefully everything transferred properly from the multiple decades old software we were using before. If you notice any issues please let me know, thanks! Also, I'm still working on things like chatbox, etc so hopefully those will be working in the next week or two.

Quitting smoking...

once you GPF, you will never NOT gpf.
if you get banned you will still think about GPF.
look at flake.

How'd you quit? Cold turkey? Or just wean yourself off over time?

I've tried out the e-cigs and they do nothing, but make me want a real cig even more.
Ive cut down from a pack to a half a pack a day. That's just been recently of the 4-5 years I have smoked.

Thinking about just going cold turkey. I've never actually set my mind to do it.

I was the same way as you. I quit previous to this time with aids. The first time was in the summer because of a surgery, aka I had morphine at the time of the surgery and Tylenols all up in my business causing me to not really "notice" the withdrawal. Then some time after that for 3 weeks with an e-cig. Similarly to you, the e-cig just made me want real smoke considering I wasn't too big on the "metallic" taste that it sometimes had when you had to refill the atomizer.

The way I did it was simple, I went cold turkey as hell. People said I couldn't do it, and I was like "Yeah? Watch I'll start right now." I also wanted to get my Dad to stop after some 30 years of smoking so I had to make this decision not only for myself, but to set a path for others to follow. It's the best decision I ever made. The reason people fail with quitting smoking is that they believe that quitting is only changing a piece of them. The actual fact is that, you have to be ready for a personal overhaul, meaning; you're going to be a different person before and after. You will no longer waste time, you will be able to associate with both smokers and non-smokers, and you're going to be able to taste again, breathe again, etc. I am on day 13 and am perfectly content walking behind someone who has a cigarette, standing around them, what have you without craving one. I have cheated once or twice, I admit it, I'm only human, but after not smoking, you won't even want one.

The main piece of advice I can give you, is be prepared for one or two really sketchy days where you'll be battling not only with your mind, but your body. Everything can be overcome, the issue is, that you have to WANT it. If you don't want it, and you're doing it for secondary or even tertiary reasons in terms of importance to you, then you will not succeed. I went from pack a day, to cold turkey and that's that. The biggest thing is eliminating them from the car as well. Good luck to you or anyone else who wants to try, I would definitely recommend it.
