Quick Supercharger Question

I have a Gen V M90, was in a fire but the pulley moves freely, I'm working to clean it up and do some minimal porting, or cleaning of casting.

I'm going to pull the snout and remove all of the bolts that hold it in but they're all super tight.

I'm just using the stupid little security star bit and a ratchet and it's just not working, only been able to get one out. Currently I have it soaking in WD40 as I don't have any PBBlaster.

The one question I have is could I take a small battery powered impact to it to remove these bolts? I wouldn't torque them back in with the impact obviously, but I just want these bolts out so I can continue.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Seems to me like in the fire the aluminum must have expanded and now the bolts are super tight, or it basically destroyed the antiseize on the bolts and now they don't want to come out. They all move a couple of turns but then get stuck and then they're just impossible to move by hand.

Gen V's are always hard to get out. Usually you slaughter the head on one or two in the process and buy new bolts with regular heads on them. I wouldn't impact a torx head, it's just bad.

Okay, good, glad I'm not the only one haha

Do you know what bolts I should get or what grade and such?

I was iffy on impacting as well haha

Security star bit? Shouldn't they all be 10 mm?

Gen III and Gen V are different, they're torx but i have the security torx

hmm guess i should go out and look at mine

It's stupid IMO, I hate getting these out lol just want them out so I can finish cleaning, minimal porting and then start with paint so this project can start to look like something nice haha

I'll have to make a build thread here, already started one on Montecarloforum

These bolts are plain dumb. You barely have any depth for the tool and ... don't get me started. I forget. Technically they are the same bolt as a gen 3, but fubared head.

Alright, so I should be good if I go pull some Gen III bolts from the yard or something?

They're horrible, tempted to run it to a shop just let them deal with it, but I don't have the money for that right now.

alum, steel combo never works out right. pick up a eazy out and replace them all while your at it , better be safe then sorry

Not on a gen V

I attempted to remove mine to go ahead and change the coupler while it was off but ended up stripping 3 of them so I said F it. I might just take it by the machine shop and see what they can do.

I drilled the button head off of a couple which just left the stud. The nose slid off over the studs and I then used vise grips to get the studs out.

I've impacted torx before, it will eventually snap the bit but I got them out. Security torx are not as strong.

My gf's dad owns a machine shop, so i may take it there if worst comes to worst. We'll see how some heat does

Yeah, the security torx are twisting just by hand lol

I have some more at home, I'll see how heat or impact goes.

Just worried about the impact damaging the housing or rotors themselves, should be okay right?

Good idea I might just have to try this before I waste money taking it to the machine shop

I wasn't gonna say that I ground off a head or two. As for replacements. Take one to the hardware store. Tractor Supply had the bolts in stock for me.

Sounds good, i'll work some more on getting them out today, whatever else is stuck i'll just use a dremel and cutoff wheel and try to pull them out with vice grips.
