Quick Splice connectors with remote start..

Im ordering this either today or tomorrow...So, Im about to order a remote start/alarm for my 99gtp. This to be exact.. Crimestopper SP 301 2 Way Remote Alarm Keyless Entry Security System w LCD Pager | eBay Now, can I use quick splice connectors for things such as door locks, turn signals, and other small current things? I will solder the 12v constant, ground and accessory wires. It'd sure be nice to not have to manually cut and solder any more connections than needed.
 


Don't cut. Get yourself a decent set of wire strippers and pull the coating back. A buddy who used to do alarms showed me the second best thing to soldering. You strip some coating off the wire, poke a hole into it with a pick, put the wire you are adding on through the hole, close the hole and wrap your new wire end around the closed connection. Tape and smile.

I am not a fan of splices as they cut through the wire you are tapping into and can cause issues over time.

FWIW all the connections on my Viper system are soldered.
 
i like what bill said here, but i choose a lighter as stripper of choice on small gauge wire. But i like to soilder so im just do it.

Thats exactly how I was taught. I believe it's called a military tap. After I tape it, I put a zip tie around the wire I tapped into and the alarm wire. This will secure it so the wire can't be yanked out and the tape will not come undone.
 
You need a heavy duty soldering gun for the ignition wires or you'll end up with a cold solder joint.

Most wires are located at the bcm. Here's a picture of what you'll see and that's where most of the wires are at (such as drivers door trigger, factory disarm, lock and unlock wires). I just did this on my 2002 grand prix. So I'm hoping this info will keep you from being frustrated like I was. Testing every single connection in the drivers kick panel is a pain (the specific information I needed wasn't readily available so had to spend lots of time testing wires). Also get a test light which kinda looks like a screwdriver but with a sharp needle like tip at the end (don't use it on airbag wires and data wires!!). This way you can probe the multiple colored wires at the bcm (example: door unlock wires when probed will actuate door lock so you will hear the lock. You basically are grounding the test light to the chassis and completing the circuit. This is faster and easier than a digital multimeter!). Also use trunk release at the switch in glove box.
