Quick! Radiator Drain Plug

And it's not like I'm doing my entire engine bay, just around the front valve cover so I don't need to cover the alternator.

Just don't spray right at it, I didn't cover mine at all, just avoided it. It got pretty wet of course but that's no big deal.

I've said this before, but my friends aurora's alternator is at the very bottom of the serpentine belt system. Long story short, he drove through some water that was up to the hood one day, meaning his alternator was fully submerged in water, still turning, and still producing power. Its still fine almost a year later. Car almost stalled from sucking up some water, but the alt. is fine.

I just got done spraying the bay down. No more smoke, thanks for the tip Scotty. I was hesitant to start it right away cause there's a lot of water in the cooling system and it got below freezing last night so I was worried it froze so I let it thaw out a bit and it ran fine, no problems. Low coolant is still on when I just filled it up to the top.

coolant sensor is dirty or bad, its on the side of the rad, under the cap. take the pass side head light out and you can see/reach it.

unplugging it turns the light off.

Well when I got my UIM replaced, the coolant light was on when I took the car in and when I got it back, the light was off so I know it's not bad. Do you think you have to reset it or something? Or maybe it's just covered in goop. I should go check it again when it's cool cause I went driving for a bit and it might be low again.

I had it to the top when I filled it up. Squeezed the upper radiator hose to kind of suck some more down. Filled it back up to the top. Capped it off, started the car and light stayed on. Is there like a certain time it takes to realize the level is full? Cause before I would start the car and it would stay on for 1 second and then turn off, and that was before I filled it up. Weird.

nope it either thinks theres coolant or not. if the rads full try cleaning the sensor.

theres a metal clip that holds it in, then you pull it out, its got a o ring on the end to seal.

you can suck some out. if you just yank the sensor coolant will just spill out, not a lot, but if you suck it out you can re use it.

I just checked and the level was low. So I added more, squeezed the tube, and topped it off. Started car and the light was still on. Hmmmm most likely dirty. I'll look again later in the week and see if it's still low. Wait no, cause it's going in lol. Never mind.

More trouble! It's not excess coolant burning off in the engine bay, cause I sprayed the entire engine bay down. There was still smoke and it was burning coolant. Couldn't figure out where the smoke was coming from, so I took the oil fill cap off and smoke poured out from it. Ughhhh help? I'm at a total loss now.

3800 N/A. Well this only started happening after I attempted to flush my coolant so the likely hood of a failed head gasket or LIM gasket are faint. I'm guessing since my valve cover gaskets are bad that coolant and water seeped down inside and is getting mixed and burned. I can check my oil, but I can assure you it's not high cause it's at like the 3rd dot due to it leaking. Car isn't overheating though. Let me go check the oil...

your intake maybe leaking and the engine is eating the coolant. its the n/a engines curse.

dont think waters getting into a bad v/c gasket,

you need to let the car get all warmed up parked and just watch for where the steam starts from, then try to see wtf is leaking.

You can see smoke coming out from the sides of the front valve cover and when you take the oil filler cap off it's swarming around in area of the rocker arms and springs. Note that this was when it was halfway up to temperature.

It's dark out now so I can make one tomorrow. It only happens after going for a drive. Not a quick grocery get drive, but more like cruise around town. At a stop, you can start seeing smoke come out the side of the hood, but I've only had the smoke come out in my driveway. Video will be up tomorrow.
