hello everyone, i was just trying to get a few opinions. i am doing a head gasket job on my gp this weekend, and so far i have: new head gaskets, head bolts, l.i.m. gaskets, new u.i.m and gaskets, thermostat, thread sealer, new oil+filter, new coolant( non-Dex), and all mating surfaces are cleaned spotless. and i was wondering if there is anything i should add to this list to be on the safe side? and ive tried head gaskets sealents with bad results, and water pump is fairly new, so im gonna leave that one in. thanks in advance

Valve cover gaskets
Exhaust manifold gaskets (OEM metal gaskets are reusable)
RTV sealant for the intake corners

ive tried head gaskets sealents with bad results,

Have you tried Copper Spray? Worked great for me.

If your old coolant is gunked up, add a radiator to the list. Green and Dex aren't friends. Rockauto has them around $100 iirc.

Don't forget coolant elbows.

I would reccomend new plugs, as well as new plug wires.

I'd add a new belt too if yours hasn't been replaced in a while for piece of mind.

I'm with Brian ^^ if I do HG's I always give then 4-5 coats of copper spray on each side. It's easy if you hang them up and spray (I do only one at a time for assembly time)

Do you need a degree torque wrench with the TTY head bolts?? I honestly don't know, just throwing that out there.

Also, don't forget about the injector o-rings, and grommets for the valve covers as well as the gaskets (Fel Pro sells a set that includes both IIRC).

belt and plugs are new, and the kits came with rtv, and all o-rings and such, and im pretty sure that my torque wrenches will do the job. and where would i get the copper spray? advance auto? and what exactly r the coolant elbows? ive heard ppl mention that, but im not sure exactly where they are...

black in color 90 degree elbows with orange or green o-rings.
GREEN? Off to the color blind Dr. you go.

Even ZZP's are the same colors or all orange. They most definately buy knockoffs from the lowest bidder. Something about most of their gaskets is just not 100% right.

What's the year of your car? I think 97-98 used 1 elbow as the other is built into the tensioner. 99+ used both IIRC. Take a look at your tensioner and it will tell you for sure.

If you ever plan on modding your car or you want a serious piece of mind...Get ARP head studs instead of the bolts and use the copper spray.
