quick question...

I've searched the forums and there's a million threads relating to this question, but, no concrete answer.

So...the question I have is...with a 99'-02' GTP, how much can you expect to pay to get a RELIABLE daily driver that'll run a good 13 1/4??

Thanks guys!

Problem is bro there isn't a concrete answer. Every car is different, and there's no way to tell where u will get the parts. Me personally I've gotten most of my go fast parts used for cheap. I've prob only spent right around 500 bucks total on all my parts. But I've not run it at the track yet. But some say with my setup I should run pretty close to 13s. But if u bought all ur parts brand new I'd tell ya u waisted ur money.

A reliable daily driver that will run 13's Depends on miles on the car and how it was driven before you got it.
Ill have close to 5 grand in mine By the time I'm done
But thats a full rebuild go fast parts and built trans.

And thats with me doing 90% of my own work

I should be around 12.7-13.0 in the 1/4 hopefully

What it really depends on is if you need a transmission. In other words if your's decides to give up.

TDC has the nail on the head answer, the real ? is how many times do you wand to rebuild transmissions and how much money to you have to play with?. CHEAP, RELIABLE, FAST you can only pick 2

I picked the reliable and fast. And I was glad I did. I had a TEP transmission and 2.8 XP'd stage 2 intercooled setup.

It was also my DD. It was fast. Ran low 12's

Thats where im heading with mine i was going to build my own trans now im just thinking of buying a built trans
not sure where ill get it but after my engine build Im going to need a trans theres 181000 on the current engine and trans and all runs well except the mileage

I choose Fast and reliable And semi inexpensive But never cheap
Ive done cheap and fast before and never lasted long with any car

cheap and fast here. :p

but i did everything i have by hand pretty much. i also bought used parts for the most part.

lol how about not cheap not fast not reliable for me! thats where im headed once i get to Oklahoma things will change, looking for trans top swap rockers, agx and lowering springs, to start with. maybe turbo kit seems like parts are everywhere for turbos and trans i mean one from triple edge i hope.

Yup :D ........just got back with it a little bit ago....

the car is almost perfect, except the rear drivers side window doesn't roll down...the guy that i bought it from was the original owner and he was 62...so he never even used it and had no clue it didn't work...

and i guess there was a rattle in the dash that was fixed because it was a recall and they took the dash out and didn't reconnect the fog lights, so, those don't work...

ANNNNND the best one is the piece on the drivers side door with the window switches and stuff popped off...i don't know how the hell it happened...but i didn't know about it when i bought it...it just happened when i was driving it home

other than that...i took it to 3 seperate mechanics at 3 seperate shops and had them fine tooth comb it...none of them found anything mechanical...

miles? completely stock? did he do regular maintenance on uncommon things like the supercharger oil?

The car has 52,000 miles and it's completely stock. I had planned on getting on here tomorrow and searching the forums to see what kind of maintenance I need to do on the car...I guess if I was smart...I would have asked you guys what I needed to check on the car before I bought it....

With that said..I'm not sure if he did that or not...the backround on the car is the guy is 62 and retired...he had 97 grand prix that he drove to 200,000 miles and he loved it, so, he bought this one new in 2002 and he's owned it ever since. My rationale was that the car was probably babied because it's a 62 year old guy..I'm sure he didn't get too crazy too often.

However I don't know if he did the uncommon maintenance, but, I'm going to be seeing him tomorrow to fnish some stuff up, so I will ask him if he maintained the supercharger fluid. What are some other questions I should ask him?

What are some things I should look at on the car? Like I said I took it to 3 mechanics before I bought it, but, what are some things that I should pay particular attention to that are specific to this car?

Check the LIM for coolant leaking...always a nice thing to look at. Check tranny fluid...mine has nearly empty when I bought mine...good thing I checked it, as much as I beat on it lol Make sure the valve covers don't leak either...just my 2 cents.
